speech
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to another great week of COMM 1010 online! For this week, you have no online content because you are to be working on your social issue presentation! Secondly, you all either need to schedule your meetings with me, or you will have your meetings with me for this week (this is why there is no online content this week; it is a work week).
A couple of groups have contacted me to arrange a meeting; however, if you have not you need to arrange a meeting with me this week. IF YOU HAVE NOT ARRANGED A MEETING, KNOW THAT IT IS DUE THIS WEEK! If you do not, you will receive a zero for the meeting assignment. Even if you get a zero for this assignment, you need to coordinate with your groups to move forward with your peer teach project.
Social Issue Presentation:
Moving on to the social issue presentation, remember you all completed a topic planning form in which you identified a social issue that you are passionate about; this is what you will use to start your social issue presentation video. I want to clarify that there is a sample video under module 7; however, yours should not look this way! Your video should look exactly like mine where I can see your face and upper body (this is to grade you on delivery). I highly recommend your follow the outline structure and length requirement that that is in the sample video; however, you do NOT HAVE TO have a visual aid.
Social Issue Presentation Visuals (optional):
If you are referencing a graph or statistic that you think is really important, you can of course print it out and hold it up when you talk about it. Visuals are good, but I do not recommend that you use a PowerPoint because it becomes complicated to integrate the two. If you know how to voice over an image for a second (as you may see in an instructional video on YouTube), that is completely fine! However, this is a video speech and I must see your face, so if you do not know how to do these things, then I recommend printing out visuals or simply not using them.
Social Issue Presentations Requirements:
There is a PowerPoint under module 7 that will be VERY helpful for you all to reference to learn about the details. However, I will list them for you here:
1. You need to be following Monroe’s Motivated Sequence (reference the PowerPoint in module 7 as it perfectly spells this out for you).
2. This presentation needs to be 7-9 MINUTES.
3. Must have SIX SOURCES!
1. You will need to do outside research. You can do this through unt.edu, and use the database to begin your search.
4. FOUR of your SIX sources must have been published in the last four years.
5. FOUR of your SIX sources must be published, scholarly research from the databases.
6. TWO of your SIX sources may be from other sources that are not from scholarly sources (such as the NY Times).
7. All SIX of your citations should be cited in your presentation.
Social Issue Presentation Outline:
This assignment is worth 200 POINTS (30 points from the outline and 170 points from the presentation itself).
For 30 points, you will submit a typed outline.
· It will have full sentences of your claims followed by references in APA style.
· Example: According to Ono and Sloop (2019) “_________.”
· This is how you will incorporate citations into your speech as well as your outline.
· You will need a reference page in APA style (at the end of your outline).
· All in all, this is a very detailed outline of your speech, and your speech should be very well-rehearsed, crafted, and polished.
That is all for today, guys! Please read this and/or watch this video in its entirety before emailing me with any questions. If you read and watch this video and you still have questions, you may email me or come see me in my office hours Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:30 (GAB 322). DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! This presentation must be well crafted and rehearsed, and it is 20 points! So, begin the research and planning NOW!
