Interview responses for Heinz dilemma, received through e-mail:

  • I think that Heinz took all appropriate measures to attempt to pay for the life saving drug for his wife. He saved money, agreed to pay for the rest of it later, and tried to get the druggist to understand the severity of his wife’s situation. I think Heinz was justified in taking matters into his own hands and stealing the drug. I believe that human life is more valuable and important than making millions of dollars and sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. However, if there were any other way to obtain the drug legally, he absolutely should have exhausted those options first.

  • I think Heinz should have taken the drug regardless if he loved his wife or not. In my opinion, saving a human life is more important than making money, so he should attempt to save a human life regardless of his feelings toward that person.

  • Again, I believe that human life is more valuable than making millions, so yes, he should’ve taken the drug for a stranger as well.

  • I don’t necessarily think people should do all the can to save another’s life. If saving a human being’s life means the death of another life, I don’t think one life should be more valuable than another. However, if we treat all humans with the same level of care and consideration, we make this world a much better, peaceful, loving place. I would also sacrifice my level of comfort to allow someone else’s life to continue. It is just the right thing to do, in my opinion.

  • It is against the law for Heinz to steal. It is also probably morally wrong to steal. From a religious standpoint, both are sins. However, major religions teach to preserve all life and to take care of one another. I’m on the fence on this one.

  • I think in general, people should avoid breaking the law. Laws are typically put in place to protect us and restore order. Laws are important. However, drug companies raise costs and put up barriers preventing people from receiving appropriate care all the time. There should be laws in place preventing that. Since there isn’t, I feel a justification for stealing the drug.
