DISCUSSION REPLIES - MODULE 2 COURSE 650
As you review the post below and concept maps, answer these questions:
· Do I understand the argument my classmate is trying to make with this concept map?
· Are there resources that I could share on this topic?
· What is missing from this concept map?
The feedback should offer constructive input for my classmates to improve their concept maps that will help them to construct a more successful research project.

Please forgive my map starting at the bottom, I chose the free method and it seemed my choices were limited. However, as you can see, I start with the main concept of Adventure Therapy (AT) and it flows into the next three categories to include the benefits (who AT may be benefit), therapy, and experiential education. Adventure Therapy is described as the “prescriptive use of adventure by mental health professionals to kinesthetically engage clients on affective, behavioral, and cognitive levels” (Gass, Gillis, & Russell, 2012, p. 1). Adventure therapy stemmed from experiential education theory which is influenced by the work of John Dewey, and it is grounded in the notion that individuals learn with reflection. Individuals that partake in Adventure Therapy will join in unique physical and social challenges that lead to a state of adaptive dissonance, where they need to master the activity to restructure the meaning of the participant’s experience (Koperski et al. 2015).
The concept map is used to visually illustrate how to organize my research with AT, making connections to the different categories. I believe I can add to this delving further into which modalities may be incorporated, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and social skills training. This may assist with deconstructing AT to research and understand the concept to gain a deeper understanding and so that I may organize my research accordingly.
