Health promotion background
.
The term ‘Health Promotion’ was coined in 1945 by Henry E. Sigerist, the great medical historian, who defined the four major tasks of medicine as promotion of health, prevention of illness, restoration of the sick and rehabilitation.
“the promotion of health obviously tends to prevent illness, yet effective prevention calls for special protective measures”
The first International Conference on Health Promotion was held in Ottawa in 1986 as a response to growing expectations for a new public health movement around the world.
Since then, the WHO Global Health Promotion Conferences have established and developed the global principles and action areas for health promotion

REFERRAL
Referrals in healthcare are the process through which primary
care physicians direct patients to specialist healthcare providers
for further diagnosis, treatment, or expert advice.
Referral systems underpin the collaborative network within
healthcare.
They allow for a seamless transition from general to
specialized care.
Patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach,
leveraging the expertise of various healthcare professionals to
enhance outcomes and patient satisfaction.
IN OTHER WORDS THEY ARE written requests from one health professional to another health professional or health service, asking them to diagnose or treat a patient. This is a Fundamental mechanism for a coordinated and comprehensive healthcare system that ensures that patients receive specialized care for specific health
concerns.
