Health Promotional Plan
Health Promotional Plan
Healthcare is an essential department in the country, and it is an essential part of life. Health promotional plans are the documents or guidelines required by the affected population. Being the nurse, it is the duty to diagnose the health problems, analyze the causes and symptoms, and devise a plan to educate the affected population and promote health. Different issues need attention these days, and teen pregnancy is one. The World Health Organization (2020) has stated “every year, an estimated 21 million girls aged 15–19 years in developing regions become pregnant and approximately 12 million of them give birth.”
There are different causes of teen pregnancy, including the lack of education, lack of awareness, family pressure, family history, lack of parental care, the desire of children, forced marriage, spouse pressure, lack of medical care, non-use of contraceptives, and others. These causes and symptoms are common, and specific populations are more prone to them. The indigenous, blacks, low-educated families, and Sub-Saharan African families. Africa is a significant country with many births with teenage mothers (CDC, 2012).
Teenage pregnant girls have fewer chances of having healthy babies than others. The negative health outcomes for children are born to teenaged mothers. Healthy People 2030 has discussed the situation of teenaged girls. According to healthy people 2030, the ratio of teen pregnancies is 43.4:1000 in the USA. Healthy people have set the goal to the ratio of 31.4:1000 by 2030.
Demographic Data
Teen pregnancies are characteristics of teen girls, and it is the population chosen for the study. The teen girls who have to experience social vulnerability and challenges are more prone to teen pregnancies. Social vulnerability and challenges are based on several factors. Factors like income, language, minority status and family structure are essential in measuring the social challenges.
Teen pregnancy is associated with social challenges, and it is expected that 11.5 teen pregnancies occur per 1000 females. Several factors are predictive of teen pregnancies, including low education and income. Single parents are more prone to the challenges of teen pregnancies. The demographics of the chosen population are associated with low education and poor social setup. The interventions related to teen pregnancies should discuss the social challenges the teenaged girl faces. It is observed that the proper guidance and educational sessions are needed for the teenaged girls, and CDC initiative should be studied to have the guidance.
Health promotional plan SMART goals
SMART goals refer to specific, achievable, measurable, relevant and time-bound. SMART goals and objectives are set to improve the demographics of the specific community. I have developed a set of objectives to reduce teen pregnancy and different schools, teens, parents and teachers. The SMART goals are as follows.
· The state's schools will conduct educational sessions every 6 months for adolescents on the prevention of unwanted pregnancy.
· Each participant will be able to verbalize at the end of the educational session 3 methods of contraception
· Each participant will verbalize 3 reasons why teen pregnancy should be avoided.
· Each participant will be able to demonstrate on a mannequin proper condom application and trouble shoot any issue that may arise.
Health promotional plan
The health promotional plan is to educate the families to use the contraceptive methods until they are ready to have children. Once they are ready they should bring their partners or family members to the nurse for moral and emotional support. The plan guides the participants that teenage pregnancies need to be avoided and safe methods should be used. The communication gap between the families and healthcare facilitators creates issues (USDA, 2020).
The educational plan includes the different brochures and pamphlets that are easy to understand and contain precautionary measures to avoid teenage pregnancies. Teaching contraceptive methods or precautions are highly encouraged to avoid teen pregnancy. Education is key . The consultation with a medical provider is essential for these families.
The health education plan addresses the needs of pregnant participants as well. The families participation and involvement are essential for the care of the female. The diet should be enriched with nutrients, including fruits and vegetables. The appropriate number of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates should be part of the diet. The girls are recommended to attend all the communication sessions and update their progress (Love is respect, 2018). Doctor visits are necessary for pregnant teenage women because the proper nourishment of the fetus and mother are essential. The plan includes the guidelines for the medication and essential vitamins needed during their pregnancy. A sedentary lifestyle is avoided, and adherence to medication is crucial for the infant’s well-being.
Emotional and spiritual support are crucial. The health promotion plan intends to educate the teens and their families on the prevalence of unintended pregnancy and prevention techniques family planning and birth control (USDA, 2020). The teens are suggested to have cordial relations with their partners and families if possible. The United States Department of health reports “Unintended pregnancy is linked to outcomes like preterm birth and postpartum depression”. The families support and guidance is of utmost importance during unintended pregnancy
Participants' cultural and social beliefs were assessed, and they were a part of the health promotional plan. The literature studies include the evidence-based best practices to reduce teen pregnancies and families regarding contraceptives. The literature consists of the strategies to educate teens on how to avoid teen pregnancies by including interventions to increase birth control us to avoid unintended pregnancy. Providing information to adolescents to health centers targeted for this age group is key (USDA, 2020).
Benefits and expectations
The expectations are to increase the education for teenagers by providing birth control interventions and family planning education, thus leading to a reduction in teenage pregnancies. (USDA, 2020). If pregnancy does occur, education will be forced on appropriate diet, medications, medical care and psychological support for the teen and their family.
Conclusion
In conclusion, teenage pregnancies can be avoided by providing proper education on contraception and family planning. The healthcare promotional plan will help the families and participants be educated and be aware of the hurdles of pregnancy at an early age. The communication gap will be reduced, and it will be a way to have a healthy lifestyle until the patient is ready to start a family.
