Healthline Website Review
Healthline Website Review on ADHD
Many misconceptions and myths have advanced on the issue of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These result from a lack of credible sources to seek information from. It becomes incredibly debilitating for parents and concerned people with children who may be suffering from ADHD. To ensure that these people have the correct information, they must visit a credible source. ADHD is a mental health condition that is characterized by uncommon levels of hyperactivity and unwary conduct. People with ADHD cannot focus on a particular thing and lose focus while having varied energy levels, affecting the performance of work, studies, and other activities. It is imperative to diagnose early for better health outcomes. Healthline is an authoritative, accurate, and objective website that provides credible information about ADHD and other health conditions.
The three criteria for assessing the website’s credibility are essential for various audiences. Parents can access the website to verify their child has ADHD based on prior suspected symptoms. Tutors and scholars can use the site to fine-tune their research or as a guide when tackling the subject. Medical practitioners can also use it when referring information to make a correct diagnosis. Authority criteria inquire about the author, their accessibility, and if a specialist in the same field reviews them (Grand Canyon University, n.d). The referenced information must be presented correctly (Cornell University, 2021). Accuracy criteria rely on the publisher’s role. Some websites will put a disclaimer on the document when the author’s opinion may not correspond with theirs. Lastly, the criteria of objectivity explore the document's targeted purposes, the bias it may portray, and the detailing of information.
Healthline’s website is very authoritative. Traci Angel authors the document on ADHD. Jeffrey Ditzell medically reviewed Angel’s work, a doctor of osteopathic medicine (2021). He is a psychiatrist on adult ADHD and general psychiatry with a private practice in New York City. The link provides his contact details. The page on bipolar disorder also contains Kimberly Holland and Crystal Ray. Pole as the writers, Tiffany Taft as the reviewer, and 29th November as the updated date (Holland & Ray. Pole, 2021). The Healthline website offers the contact details at the bottom of each page, making it easily accessible for readers with queries via email and social media platforms. According to Cornell University’s evaluation of web pages, Healthline meets the condition of proper referencing as it uses an alphabetical order with the correct format. This meets all the conditions of the author’s name, author details, review, and referencing encompassed in the authority criteria.
The Healthline website is pretty good in accuracy. That the reviewer of the webpage on ADHD is a doctor of osteopathic medicine means that the information is verified concerning physical and mental approaches to health. This is a theme with all the Healthline pages, including a medical review. The page on ADHD was lastly on 13th October 2021, which makes the information current. Health on the Net Foundation did the certification of Healthline website and is related to Psych Central, which also offers health information. However, the website states that it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment as a disclaimer. This would derail a perfect accuracy score.
Healthline objectivity is reliable. Healthline website is a media platform that seeks information on the net about health conditions and frequently asked questions by parents, scholars, and all interested persons. Its goal is to reach a broad base of subscribers by offering reliable information. The website states, “We are committed to providing every individual with clear, credible, evidence-based health and wellness information” (About, n.d). The website outlines doctors and researchers not being sure about the causes of ADHD. This shows that Healthline is not willing to give biased information. The information is conveyed comprehensively, from the definition to the types of such a condition, with descriptions of symptoms and possible diagnoses. It also outlines the information that may result from research with hyperlinks to the sources. It also advises to consult a doctor first for parents who suspect their children may suffer from a condition (Angel, 2021). “When a reader notify us to a potential problem with our content, we take the quick action” (Contact us, n.d). The author does not include their opinion, making the information objective. Nonetheless, the various advertisements running on the website may result in some bias.
In conclusion, Healthline upholds an authoritative, accurate, and objective website that provides credible information about ADHD and other health conditions. The information on the authors with medical reviews makes it authoritative. Though it runs advertisements, its certification and disclaimers render it objective. Having been updated less than a year ago gives it an accurate depiction of the information. With all the criteria being met, Healthline is recommendable for readers on health conditions.
