Healthiest Weight’s Stakeholders

Indiana State University

There are two types of stakeholders for the Healthiest Weight Organization:

A. Primary Stakeholders :

- Center for Disease and Prevention (CDC)- CDC is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC not only gather data to help search for ways to prevent/control diseases but also they provide support for other organizations for the cause of improving/maintaining the people of the community’s health. CDC provided funds and training to HWO because HWO main focus is to reduce obesity in children which goal is similar to CDC which goal is to reduce obesity in the U.S all together. CDC helping smaller organizations like HWO will bring more awareness to the people and promote adults and children to healthier lifestyles which will reduce the rate of obesity.

B. Secondary Stakeholders :

- Early Care and Education (ECE) - This is an organization which which its primary goal is to help children in both their education and their health related issues. ECE is being helped by other organizations (like CDC) through funding, training, and technical assistance to carry out various activities to promote obesity prevention efforts. Healthiest Weight Florida (HWF) promotes physical activity and nutrition best practices in Early Care and Education (ECE) centers across the state. Most young children spend time in care outside of their home before attending elementary school, making the ECE setting a vital place to start obesity prevention efforts. Through the help of HWO, ECE can improve their practices that can help impact children and help them develop a foundation of healthy habits.

- Florida State University College of Medicine’s Center for Child Stress and Health- Toxic stress is a response that can occur when a child experiences strong, frequent, and/or prolonged adversity–such as physical or emotional abuse, chronic neglect, caregiver substance abuse or mental illness, exposure to violence, and/or the accumulated burdens of family economic hardship–without adequate adult support. This kind of prolonged activation of the stress response systems can disrupt the development of brain architecture and other organ systems, and increase the risk for developing chronic disease and cognitive impairment. Healthiest Weight Florida (HWF) is working with Florida State University College of Medicine’s Center for Child Stress and Health to raise awareness and provide resources to health care providers about toxic stress among school-aged children.

C. Excluded Stakeholders :

- Children- These are the primary targets for the Healthiest Weight Organization to reduce the rate of obesity in Florida. The children, after the programs, will take what they learned and bring awareness to other children and also promote healthy lifestyles practices.

- Communities in Florida- The people of Florida will be more aware of obesity in children and will take action to promote healthier eating and activities in school. They will also attempt to persuade children to continue these healthy practices in their homes.
