Health Education Teaching Activity

Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to help the student understand the process of health education by engaging in assessment; identification of issues; planning and implementing interventions; and evaluating effectiveness of interventions with target person.

Objectives:

At the end of this assignment, students will be able to:

1. Assess learning needs of target person.

2. Select health promotion model, methods and strategies for health education.

3. Demonstrate a participatory approach to implementing health education, using appropriate health education materials.

4. Describe methods to evaluate the outcomes of family health education.

Course Outcomes: 

This activity aligns with several of the course outcomes as stated below: 

1. Demonstrate critical thinking through analysis and interpretation of assessment data and the development of individualized health education solutions.  

2. Demonstrate the use of culturally appropriate and effective communication techniques.  

Part 1:

Design a teaching module to help educate a client about a health-related topic. 

Include the following components in a 3-4-page paper

· Identification of target person (may use family member or friend)

· Assessment of learning needs

· Analysis of learning needs

· Selection of a health promotion model

· Planning and evaluation

· Complete the lesson plan grid

· Annotated bibliography of 3-5 resources

Part 2:

Create a video of you performing this health education for an individual. The video should be 7-10 minutes in length and include the following elements:

· Introduction

· Assess health literacy/needs

· Address health education topic (utilizing teaching strategies/tools)

· Evaluate learning (eg: teach back, “Ask me 3” etc)

· Close/follow up plan
