Introduction

Hello, my name is Katia Moreno. The reason why I choose the topic was because of many reasons. First, I have two families going through a divorce. The mothers came to me for advice and resources to tell their children about the divorce. I have experienced divorce from a close family member and witness all the trauma my cousin has to undergo. As I remember all the significant impact my cousin had, I don’t want the children in my class to experience the same thing. Unfortunately, my aunt had to advocate for her or her children. Still, to this day, my cousin is not the same person. She had to repeat first grade because not only did she have to experience the divorce, she also saw a lot of domestic violence. I am sure that is the worst a child could go through. My parent was together until my dad’s last day on earth. With all that said, I would like to have a lot of knowledge to assist these two families and any other person who can benefit from my nodule.

It is a challenging topic since I had to experience it threw my cousin. Every time her parents would be in an argument, she would run out of her house and go to my house. She would be shaking, not being able to control herself. Crying herself to sleep, I would tell her everything was going to be okay. Academically, she was not doing good. The teacher did notice her change but never offer her any resources, not her help. I asked my aunt why didn’t she ever get help. She told me back in the ’90s, and in the Hispanic culture, it was an embarrassment to ask for help or divorce.
