LT assignment 1
HCAD 635 Long-Term Care Administration: Welcome to Your Administration Rotation – Part 2 Letter
Read On or Before the Start of Week 3
Dear AIT Student,
You are doing great and moving right along in your LTC administrator-in-
training course! Our focus this week will be an introduction to Home and Community-
Based Care Services (HCBS) within Long Term Care industry. We will learn a good
amount of information on some of the various home care options and community-based
services, while exploring some of the important operational functionalities from an
administrator’s lens. Some of the different services and settings that we will investigate
this week include home health, hospice, senior centers, adult day services, and medical
home services. It is important to note that there is not a discussion this week, as your
first assignment will be due on Tuesday of Week 3 by 11:59 pm EST.
A primary learning aspect to your Week 3 Rotation is understanding that
regulatory bodies operate differently within each type of service area. Certified Medicare
and/or Medicaid home health agencies, also frequently referenced as HHAs, have G-
Tags that correspond to specific federal standards and there may be state-based
standards that also have to be adhered too. However, you must investigate this
regulatory information based on the state residence that you are reviewing. Certified
Medicare and Medicaid hospice providers also have L-Tags that also correspond to
specific federal standards. There may be state-based standards that require hospice
compliance, but you will have to research this information based on the state residence
of interest. Each of these tags are similar to the SNF F-Tags that we learned about last
week. Remember to use the Medicare SOM Appendix PDF located in the classroom to
explore Federal-Level CMS regulations, simply select your specific type of healthcare
setting to review the associated regulations.
You may also want to search the CMS website to assist you in learning more
about the different home and community-based care services. It is important to note
that there are several components to the HCBS and community-living options, ranging

from distinct quality measures that are based upon service delivery mechanisms to end-
of life care services that involve specific quality care considerations. Depending on your
interest for this week’s focus area, you may want to research more information on
specific services provided in home settings or explore aging-in-place options.
As shared earlier in this letter, your first assignment will be due on Tuesday,
which will require you to apply the knowledge that you have learned during the first
three weeks of this course. You will use the AIT Experience: LTC Settings and Services
Report Template to complete this task, which is provided to you in the assignment
prompt. I am excited to have you complete this assignment, as you will have the
opportunity to demonstrate your new wisdom within each part of the report. You will
have the ability to customize your report based on the various options that you feel are
important to your own personalized learning needs. The report will also allow you to
learn more information about some actual LTC service providers. The assignment
should allow you to showcase your new knowledge, allowing you to apply an
administrator’s lens and consumer’s view to each of your selected companies from the
report listings.
Here's to a wonderful week and I look forward to reading your first assignment!
Sincerely,
Your Professor and AIT Preceptor
