HB II Oppression Video 2 DB. Week 9

One of the key points of development throughout adulthood is the growth and shaping of a personal identity. Our identity is informed by many micro, macro, and meso sources, including oppression and bias. Please watch both TED talks for this week and answer the questions for each video below. You are welcome to respond (but not required) to one of your classmates but I ask that you follow A “golden rule” of posting: please respond to someone in the exact same way that you would want someone to respond to you.

The danger of a single story | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Adichie presents a compelling argument about the dangers of a single story. Please respond in **one** of the two ways below:

Choice # 1 – if you are comfortable, please share what you believe is the “single story” about you. To counter balance this story, please share 2 “stories” (e.g. truths about you, your ethnicity, gender, sexuality, etc.) that are reflect who you are.

Choice # 2 – please select a group of people who are marginalized in American society. What is the “single story” about them? Please identify 2 “stories” (truths) about them that counteract the single story.
