(hayey russell)The characteristics of neoclassical architecture are that of grandeur of scale, simplicity of geometric forms, use of columns, and mostly blank, white walls.

A neoclassical building i have chosen is the U.S Treasury. Located in Washington D.C, this building was built in phases from 1836 to 1869. The architects of this building are  Alfred B. Mullett, Ammi B. Young, Isaiah Rogers, and Robert Mills.

The three architectural elements that are adapted or inspired by Greek and Roman buildings are the dome and arch structures and also introduced concrete as a building material in their architecture.

this is an ancient greek building that could have inspired the U.S Treasury because of the similar look and structure.

designers and architects of the nation’s capital looked to the ancient Greeks and Romans for inspiration because of its simplicity of ornament reflected the sturdiness and authenticity of the Americans.
