SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) is a Saudi company interested in manufacturing petrochemical products. SABIC produces a wide range of products derived from petroleum and natural gas, such as plastics, fertilizers, fibers and chemicals. SABIC was founded in 1976 and is one of the largest petrochemical companies in the world. It produces its products in its factories spread throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and exports its products to all parts of the world. SABIC employs thousands of employees.

The working time of shift employees at SABIC is determined according to a specific schedule. The company usually operates on a 24/7 shift system, where the work period is divided into three shifts: morning, evening, and night.

The morning shift typically begins early in the morning and continues until midday. The evening shift period begins after that and continues until the evening, while the night shift period begins in the evening and continues until the next morning

The risk assessment will cover all operational areas of SABIC's Jubail United Petrochemical Company, including chemical handling and storage areas, production lines, employee workstations, warehouses, maintenance workshops, confined spaces, electrical systems, fire safety systems, ergonomic setups, manual handling practices, and environmental control systems. Each area will be evaluated comprehensively to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

The Finance Director, who reports directly to the Managing Director, holds direct responsibility for health and safety management within SABIC.

The risk assessment for SABIC's Jubail United Petrochemical Company was conducted through a comprehensive and systematic approach. I consulted various sources of information, including industry best practices, NEBOSH guidelines, and Saudi Arabian labour laws to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety standards.

I reached out to a variety of people involved in the process, like plant managers, safety officers, equipment operators, and maintenance staff, to get their insights on how things were running and the safety measures in place. We had interviews and group discussions to really understand the specific risks and concerns that employees in different roles were facing.

To find any potential dangers, I went on-site to check things out and reviewed incident reports and safety records. I also did a thorough analysis of the work environment, processes, and equipment being used. During my inspections, I noticed some potential hazards such as exposure to chemicals, slips, trips, and falls, fire risks, and accidents involving machinery.

For each hazard I identified, I looked at the current safety measures in place, like using personal protective equipment (PPE), regular maintenance, and safety training. Then, I figured out what additional measures and actions were needed to further reduce these risks. This included things like improving ventilation, putting in anti-slip flooring, and upgrading fire suppression systems. I prioritized our recommendations based on how much they would improve safety and how feasible they were to carry out.
