How to Reference Your Sources
When taking information from any source, you need to give credit to show where you took the information
from. This is called referencing. If you do not do this, it is considered plagiarism (i.e. cheating) as it means
you are saying that you are the source of the information.
This could include information from any of the following types of sources:
A website article
A journal (online or hardcopy)
A book (online or hardcopy)
A newspaper (online or hardcopy)
There are many different ways of making a reference (i.e. APA, MLA, ISO690, Harvard). In this course, you
will be required to reference your sources using the Harvard Referencing (CQ University) style.
Harvard Referencing (CQ University)
For most of your units in your diploma studies, you will be asked to referencing using this style of referencing.
Make sure you understand how to do this properly.
NOTE: There are many different types of Harvard Referencing (i.e. Harvard Anglia, Harvard Victoria
University, etc.). Do not just google any Harvard Referencing style as there are slight differences between
them!
IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO WRITE IT, LOOK AT THE EXAMPLES!!!!
To see more detail on how to reference using this style, please refer to the Harvard Referencing Guidelines
(CQ University) on Moodle.
