Healthcare is a very expensive market. Healthcare is a part of some of the gross domestic product and healthcare spending is more than 3.4 trillion (Pearl, 2018). Healthcare is very expensive, and most Americans cannot afford the costs if they become diagnosed with a serious illness or expensive prescriptions. Medicare is the insurance plan for seniors run by the government and what they do not pay, other commercial insurance companies that patients have as a secondary insurance make up the rest of the costs (Pearl, 2018). This causes the premiums and deductibles to be higher for secondary or commercial insurances. Higher deductibles make patients and their families pay more for their coverage and their healthcare expenses (Pearl, 2018). This affects not only the patients and their families in the Medicare enrollments but also other patients and families enrolled in other insurance programs. Healthcare is very important to Americans and this causes many issues to arise with political parties and politicians. Both political parties realize that these costs are issues for Americans and have may different ideas on how to fix it.
How could you address the issue in an ethical manner to minimize potential negative outcomes?
Understanding all sides of the healthcare insurance costs and how they affect patients in your hospital is essential to running a hospital. Insurance is how the hospital and their employees get paid, and cover the costs and tests that they ran. Using ethical behaviors when referencing insurance costs, coverages, and the tests patients need can minimize any negativity that can arise from these topics. Ethical manners are essential when referencing sensitive topics that will affect the treatment of the patient.
