Assessment Title Case Study – Activity-Based Budgeting

Purpose of the assessment (with ULO Mapping)

Students are required to:

 Implement systems to plan and control business operations (ULO 7)

Weight 30% of the total assessments

Total Marks 30

Word limit Not more than 3,000 words

Due Date Week 10, Friday 5:00 pm (AEST)

Submission Guidelines

 Students should complete the assignment in groups of 2 – 5 students. Students must inform the lecturer of their class the membership of their groups before the end of week 8.

 All work must be submitted on Blackboard by the due date along with a completed Assignment Cover Page.

 The assignment must be in MS Word format, no spacing, 12-pt Arial font and 2 cm margins on all four sides of your page with appropriate section headings and page numbers.

 Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using Harvard referencing style.

Assignment Specifications Background You were recently employed as a management trainee in a manufacturing firm. The Managing Director of your company had formed a taskforce was formed to explore the possibility of implementing an Activity-Based Budgeting system in the company. You were assigned to the taskforce due to your accounting background. Required Your group is required to prepare a report to comment on the suitability of Activity-Based Budgeting for a ASX-listed manufacturing company of your group’s choice (your company). The report should cover the followings: a) A description of your company b) A description of the Activity-Based Budgeting and its features c) In what ways Activity-Based Budgeting differ from traditional budgeting system d) In what ways Activity-Based Budgeting can facilitate planning and control activities in your

company e) A discussion on whether the Activity-Based Budgeting is suitable to your company Assignment Structure The report should include the following components:

 Assignment cover page clearly stating your name and student number

 A table of contents, executive summary

 A brief introduction or overview of what the report is about.

 Body of the report with sections to answer the above issues and with appropriate section headings

 Conclusion

 List of references The report should be grounded on relevant literature and all references must be properly cited and included in the reference list. To ensure that all students participate equitably in the group assignment and that students are responsible for the academic integrity of all components of the assignment. All groups need to include a table which identifies which student/students are responsible for the various sections of the assignment
