History essay
Final Project Instructions
DUE DATE: Tuesday, April 14.
Do not wait until the last minute. The course ends at that time and no additional work can be accepted. Technology or internet connection issues do not result in an extension.
Choose ONE format you want to use for your final project. (A or B below)
A. Essay
4 pages, 12-point font, 1-inch margins, double spaced—meaning there is a blank line between each line of typing—no footnotes, citations, bibliography, just use the study guide and the textbook.
You must write the entire essay in your own words. Plagiarism earns zero out of 25 points.
Do NOT use any websites as sources except the textbook . You are writing this essay based on what was discussed in the lessons and the textbook ONLY. Material that can be traced back to a website other than the textbook earns zero out of 25 points.
B. Audio/Visual Format (pick ONE from the list below)
Acceptable audio/visual formats include:
· Webpage (Google Sites is free and easy to use) – One (1) main Page and six(6) linked pages = seven (7) total pages
· Presentation (Powerpoint, Microsoft Sway, Google Slides) – Title slide plus six (6) pages
· Story format – Story, fictional diary, fictional travel blog, etc. (4 pages, See traditional essay formatting above)
· Hand-drawn poster or comics - Use four (4) 8.5 X 11 pages of regular printer paper
· Music – Song lyrics (3 pages, see traditional essay formatting above), music video, performance, etc.
· Gaming – develop a card game, board game, or role-playing game
· Other creative media – Sculpture? Quilting? Interpretive dance? Pretty much anything, as long as I can grade it like all the other projects.
Instructions for Essay or Audio/Visual Formats:
In the format of your choice, present or discuss ALL of the following six (6) themes:
1. Interconnectedness and divergence - How civilizations are related to each other and also how they resist interconnection
2. Crossing borders - Not just physical borders, but religious, political, and cultural borders as well
3. Transformations and conflict - How various civilizations adapted and changed over time
4. Changes in power arrangements - The ways different civilizations structured political, military, and religious power, and how the structures of power changed over time
5. Gendered roles and identities - How civilizations around the world perceived and valued the roles of men and women
6. The role of the environment - How climate and climate change influenced the development and transformation of civilization
You must give specific examples for each theme (who, where, how, and why), using words, images, or both. The easiest place to find specific examples is in your journals, the Study Guide you helped create in Blackboard, or the textbook. Use the vocabulary words. If you use images, label them so I can tell what you intend to show me. If you show me a picture of a herd of cows, it should be labeled something like “pastoralism ”to earn points.
Your artistic talent does not increase or decrease your score.
