You need to identify a specific law that was passed on the subject. The paper you attached to your latest post does not identify or name a specific law (a public policy). There are many out there. For example, the  National Firearms Act, of 1934, Public Law 73-474,  The Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988, The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, etc.

 

It is possible that the National Background Check System you introduce was a result of a law, but I do not know that. You do not identify any legislative background for this system. So, find a law that was passed and write about it.

Gun Control Policy

I have chosen to research the public policy regarding gun control, specifically focusing on the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and its interpretation by various federal laws. I find this public policy incredibly relevant and significant, given the ongoing debates and controversies surrounding gun ownership and its impact on public safety. The contentious and divided issue of gun control affects both individual liberty and public safety. Several interpretations of the Second Amendment have been made throughout history (Besancon, 2022). To ensure a fair strategy, it is critical to understand how government policies interact with this change.

Background Check Legislations

Background checks for gun purchases are one area where gun legislation may be addressed. Even though the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is already operating, numerous loopholes remain (Thomas, 2022). A background check, for example, is not normally required for private transactions, particularly those made at gun shows. This makes it easier for persons with criminal histories or mental health issues to get firearms. Strengthening and broadening background check procedures to encompass all sales, including private transactions, would be extremely useful.

Improving the Law of Gun Control Policy

The way present gun control laws are implemented may be improved. Tougher enforcement methods, such as stiffer penalties for illegal gun possession and improved collaboration among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, may serve to deter and reduce the frequency of crimes using weapons. Funding mental health services and addressing the underlying causes of violence may also help prevent people from turning to gun violence in the first place.

Conclusion

It is critical to do extensive research on the link between gun violence and gun control laws. The government should fund unbiased research on the link between gun ownership and public safety so that decision-makers may utilize facts rather than their own personal opinions. The purpose of gun control policy should be to strike a balance between protecting individual rights and addressing public safety issues. We may work toward a more effective and balanced policy that promotes a safer society by improving background check regulations, properly enforcing existing laws and increasing mental health support.
