Assignment 4:  Guide to Living and Working in a Foreign culture

Related Course Outcome: Assignment 4 addresses the course outcome that students should: "Develop and apply communication strategies competently in cross-cultural situations, including multi-national and inter-racial contexts." Additionally, it is designed as a model "work product" that illustrates the excellence of the students' work, and therefore might be shared with a potential employer.

Part 1: Scenario: Provide a ½ page scenario in which a colleague will spend extended time in a non-US country.

Part 2: Cultural Model: Summarize in 1-2 pages, a sophisticated cultural model that will provide the organizational schema for the training using the Purnell Model for Cultural Competence.

Part 3: Cultural Living Brief: In 3-5 pages, summarize the norms, rules, rituals and behaviors that will enable the visitor to interact successfully in the foreign culture. Organize the text or chart using the cultural model described in Part 2.

Part 4: Cultural Working Brief: In 3-5 pages, summarize the norms, rules, rituals and behaviors that will enable the visitor to interact successfully in a business community in the foreign culture. Organize the text or chart using the cultural model described in Part 2.

The Guide should be well-organized, with headings and subheadings.  Language should be business-like, not casual. Your submission must include in-text citations as well as a bibliography. This paper should be 8–12 pages in length (not including the bibliography). Adopt the APA reference style.
