Scholarly articles are preferred for research as they have been subjected to scrutiny by professionals in

the field related to the article. Often newspaper or magazines will quote from an original research

article or refer to a study. This can be reported accurately but sometimes it can also be taken out of

context or oversimplified.

How do I find or locate a Peer Reviewed Scholarly article?

There are many databases that can be used to find a peer reviewed article. The following are tow

examples that can serve as a starting point.

In the Google Scholar search engine type the key words for the topic you want to find. For example, for

discussion #2 you will want to find a research article on the health effects of added sugar. Inputting

“added sugar and health” will result in many scholarly articles to select from.

This is a biomedical database that offers millions of citations for biomedical literature. The articles can

be very specific and technical, so you may find you have to refine your key words until you start to see

the results you are looking for. For example, using the same “added sugar and health” came up with a

variety of articles related to techniques to measure specific sugars to diet and to examine sugar in the

role of health for specific age groups or even other countries.

How do I cite or provide a citation for the peer reviewed article?

The APA format is preferred over the MLA format for use with nutrition. There are many web sources
