Guidelines for a Sentence Outline
1. Read “Artificial Intelligence’s White Guy Problem”
2. Take a position. Is this a problem? Who needs to address the problem? Will it work itself out? Basically, take something from the argument to create your own argument (adding to the conversation). You can agree with Crawford, but your reasons and support must be different that hers.
3. At this point, you may ONLY use Crawford’s article, the Time Magazine Article, and your own knowledge/experience. DO NOT do any additional research.
4. Create a Sentence Outline using the guidelines below and the Sample Outline format, I have provided you.
5. Add an MLA Works Cited page for the two resources. One is a work in an Anthology the other is an article in an online database.
Several aspects must be considered in writing a sentence outline.
· To write a sentence outline, all headings and sub-headings must be in sentence form.
· As in any outline, remember that a division or subdivision can not be divided into one part; therefore, when there is an "A" there must be a "B," and when there is a "1" there must be a "2."
· Roman Numerals (I, II, III...) represent key points for your argument and serve as the topic sentence for a body paragraph. For this outline, you are expected to have 6 Roman Numerals (6 Key Points)
· Capital Letters (A,B,C...) represent a supporting detail for your topic sentence. For this outline, you are expected to have at least two Capital Letters (Supporting Details) for each Roman Numeral.
· Standard Numbers (1,2,3) represent examples, facts, or further explanation of your Supporting Details (A, B, C..) . For this outline, I would like to see at least two standard numbers per capital letter.
· The sentence outline focuses on the body of your paper, not the introduction or conclusion. You will, however, write your thesis at the top of your outline.
