Guidelines Final Paper Dance 301 Exploration of a Cultural Dance (Final Paper worth 100 points)
Topic = Choose a Culture and dance from that culture to research. Investigate the traditions, attitudes, belief system or religions and the leadership systems or politics of that culture and explain how the dance reflects the culture. Please choose a dance that is not described in the textbook.
FINAL PAPER (Final) Use the information you gathered from your outline. Writing requirements for the paper: Write your paper in essay format. Papers must be MLA format for citations and header 4 to 5 pages typed, double-spaced 12 font on 8 ½ by 11 standard white paper, standard margins. A title page (one whole page dedicated to the following information). Include the title of your paper, your name, then the professor’s name, and the course name. I know MLA papers don’t usually require a title page, but I am requiring a title page!!! All quoted research information must be documented in MLA format in the paper (author, (publication year) page #) and MLA citations on the work cited page. Substantial points will be deducted for format errors.
Research requirements for all papers: Not all Web sites are valid sources. Don't use Wikipedia or my textbook - and all sources must have an author. If you are unsure about the validity of your sources, please email the professor. You may use periodical resources (“Dance Magazine”, “JOPERD”, etc) . Use articles from the library database(2), books(2), websites(2). https://www.library.fullerton.edu/ You must use at least 2 books and 2 journal or magazine articles. If you use all websites = your work will be marked down. Our library has many online search engines to find scholarly journals on your topic in addition to many ebooks. You must cite your sources in your paper and have a completed work cited page
Work Cited Page- At least 6 sources MLA style Use https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_style_introduction.html as a reference guide for your work cited page and refer to the manual as to documentation of your sources within the paper. The work cited page must be in alphabetical order. Do not number them. Make sure your sources are legitimate. (Don't plagiarize) plagiarized paper will receive a score of 0 The paper must be submitted it to turnitin on our class Canvas site.
Research Paper Rubric The following deductions will be made for missing requirements. Every paper starts at 100 points. Deductions 10 points – for each missing resource (6 required) 20 points –for no citations in paper (must give credit to your sources and sources must be used in the paper) 10 points – for no title page 5 points – for each 1/2 page of text missing (4 pages of text required in addition to 1 source page and 1 title page, no deductions for more than 5 pages of text) 10 points- incomplete introduction 10 points – incomplete conclusion, state discoveries and profound insights Deductions will be made for format, punctuation, grammar and spelling errors, and plagiarism. GE Writing Requirement: In accordance with UPS 411.201, there is a writing assignment for this course that is compatible with the course learning objectives and outcomes. According to the campus policy, “Writing assignments in GE courses shall involve the organization and expression of complex data or ideas.” The writing assignment will be based on the assignments given in class and will include “careful and timely evaluations of writing so that deficiencies are identified and suggestions for improvement and/or for means of remediation are offered” (UPS 411.201, P. 1).
