INTRODUCTION Comment by Grant,Joseph S: At the top of the 2nd page begins you introduction. The heading INTRODUCTION should be in all capital letters and bold text—no italics or underline.
The goal of an introduction is to capture your reader’s interest and explain what the essay is about. The introduction will also contain a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually one sentence that summarizes the entire point of your essay. Usually, the last sentence of the introductory paragraph consists of the thesis statement.
BODY Comment by Grant,Joseph S: The next section of your paper is the body. The heading BODY should be in all capitalized letters and bold text—no italics or underline. You will not need to title each section of the body. However, there should be a smooth transition between topics.
The main part of a short essay is called the body. In the five paragraph essay, the body is three paragraphs long. Each paragraph should include one supporting pint that provides more information or evidence regarding your thesis statement. As a writer, you are presenting the ideas in each paragraph in a logical way to help your reader understand your topic.
Make sure to include transitions from one paragraph to the next. You can do this by making logical statements that link ideas together. Your ideas should be presented in a way that your reader can follow, even with very little background knowledge of your topic. Make sure to read your essay and make sure it is logical.
CONCLUSION Comment by Grant,Joseph S: The final section of your paper is the conclusion. The heading CONCLUSION should be all capitalized and in bold text—no italics or underline. Note: Generally, your short essay will not require a reference paper. However, if references are needed, follow the APA format for in text citation and reference page.
The conclusion of a short essay is the most memorable part for a reader. In the conclusion, you can summarize your main idea. A conclusion can succinctly explain how the ideas and evidence in the body of the essay support your thesis statement. The conclusion can summarize the introduction or thesis statement using different wording.
