Presenting and Submitting your Dissertation
These are notes of guidance on the specific procedures for submission of the dissertation, including advice on the presentation, and the declarations which must accompany it.
1. Length
The upper limit is 10,000 words (plus 10% permissible). Dissertations considerably over the word limit may be penalised with marks deduction.
2. Presentation and submission
Presentation - The final dissertation must be submitted via blackboard and a copy to your dissertation supervisor. It needs to be clearly formatted.
· Be consistent in naming/labelling items: e.g. use Illustrations or Figures, not both.
· Bibliography, References, or Works Cited. Do not use different titles interchangeably.
· Referencing: preferably use the Harvard Referencing system.
· The dissertation should word-processed.
· The dissertation must have 1.5 spacing between lines. The margins of all pages (including the abstract, figures, diagrams, illustrations, tables, appendices etc.) must be at least 1.5 inches 3.8 cm) left, top, right and bottom.
· Typeface/font must be at least 12 pt. for Arial and 12 pt. for Times New Roman or Gill Sans MT for the entire dissertation (except for figures and tables that for which you may use Arial 10 pt).
· All lists, including the Table of Contents, and the body of the dissertation must be 1.5 spaced. Subsections within lists should be at least 1.5 spaced (e.g. in chapter subsections listed in the Table of Contents).
3. Page Numbering
The preliminary pages starts at 1 and then continue towards the Title Pages and chapters or section and the pages are numbered consecutively. Appendices may be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.
4. Title Page
The first page should be laid out as the sample in Appendix 1.
