Annotated bibliography on the topic of ‘sexual harassment in the workplace’

Assessment Task 1: Individual Assignment

1) Assessment Details

This assessment involves four annotations based on the topic of “sexual harassment in the workplace”. This assignment is an individual work. Every student needs to find four academic sources in English on the given topic (a minimum of three must be peer-reviewed journal articles, and the fourth may be another journal article, a textbook or a major report).

Every student must submit the assignment using the Moodle portal having a dedicated assignment submission link titled: Annotated Bibliography. The word count for this assignment should not be more than 800 words (10% plus or minus acceptable) (excluding references). Beyond the recommended threshold of words, word counts penalties may be applied. Refer to your course description on how to develop your annotated bibliography assignment. Make sure that you understand what plagiarism is, and ensure that your work is original and that paraphrased material includes in text references.

2) Criteria used to grade this task

An annotation is a summary and evaluation. Therefore, an annotated bibliography includes a summary and evaluation of each of your sources. Your annotations should usually do the following.

· Summarise Your annotations should initially summarise your sources. What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book, chapter or article? What topics are covered? How this topic was different from other, what was the main points which it has covered ? If someone asked what this article, book or chapter is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how detailed your summary is.

· Assess and evaluate

After summarising a source, you should evaluate it. Is it a useful source? How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal or intent of this source?

· Reflect and link: Once you have summarised and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your research project? Has it changed how you think about your topic?

(Please note that an annotation is NOT just a summary of the article, book, chapter, or item, it should also assess and reflect on it. It is a brief statement of what the author says in the article, chapter or item that is relevant to your project only)
