· Compose a paper of about 1,500 words (excluding citations, footnotes, title, and other things unrelated to the text).

· Due, via Moodle, by 11:59 pm three days after our class discussion. Papers are subject to the Late Policy laid out in the syllabus.

1. Take a position on the topic under discussion (ie: in favor of Biocentric Holism or against Biocentric Holism; for CBA of against CBA )

· Carefully explain your position

· Carefully explain why you are taking this position

· Carefully explain why this position is superior to other positions.

· You MAY offer an objection to your position and discuss it.

General Information

· Make sure that you have a clear view/approach. Argue for that position and organize your paper in a way that is convincing to the reader.

· Reference at least 2 authors we’ve discussed in class

· This paper requires close analysis of the text, so you should provide A LOT of citations and significant textual support for your claims.

· I don’t have a preference with respect to the style of your citations, as long as you are consistent.

· Please refer to the paper rubric provided in class for expectations and information on how you will be evaluated. Additional resources on philosophical writing are available through Moodle.

· First personal (“I”) statements are fine in philosophical writing. (ex: “I believe…”, “I will argue that…”). Avoid “I feel”.

· Outside resources are not required, and are generally not encouraged. If you know of another text or set of materials that you believe will help you to write a stronger paper, please discuss it with me before integrating it into your paper.
