Descriptive Statistics Project

• Perform data analysis based on a set of data using Excel 2016

• Group project (2 persons)

• Submission: on Blackboard (upload your copy individually with your name and partner’s name on the report and filename by Wednesday, December 12, 2018.

Histogram

• Prepare data table

• Select data range and click Insert>Insert Statistics Chart>Histogram

• Right click at the horizontal axis and select Format Axis

• Choose appropriate bin width or number of bins • Usually, the number of bins is approximately equal to the square root of the

number of observations. It can be flexible though.

• Be sure to label the chart appropriately. Design>Add Chart Element

Box Plot

• Filter data to see population for the selected regions • Home>Sort and Filter>Filter

• Select the region

• Select data range and click Insert>Insert Statistics Chart>Box and Whisker

• Do all four regions

• Label the chart properly

Useful Functions

• Mean: =AVERAGE()

• Median: =MEDIAN()

• Mode: =MODE()

• Variance: =VAR()

• Standard Deviation: =STDEV()

• Maximum: =MAX()

• Minimum: =MIN()
