References

Students, this page serves as a guide to help you format your references page. In APA style the

references you have used in your paper, such as books, articles, websites, etc., are listed on a

separate page in your paper. This page is titled References. Center the title and type in regular

typeface, not boldface. Notice the header includes the title of the paper, typed in all caps, and

the page number inserted at the right. For this sample, let’s assume the references begin on

page 5 of the paper.

Double space all entries on the references page. The basic format for a book with one author is

the following:

Last Name, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of book: Subtitle of the book. City of publication, State of publication: Publisher.

Notice the author’s last name is typed followed by only initials for the first and middle names.

The title of the book is typed in italics. Notice also the first word is capitalized, but not the

entire title. If the title includes a subtitle, as does this sample, capitalize the first word in the

subtitle. Finally, note that the first line of the entry is not indented; however, the second and

any line following is indented.

a book with two or more authors.
