Week 7 Reflective Journal

Every course I have taken at Grantham University required some if not all of the learning outcomes. One of my first courses was a Financial planning course; this class was not what I thought it would be. I thought the course was going to consist of spreadsheets and formulas, but it was more than that. We learned to make wills, touch on was to avoid bankruptcy and building financial portfolio’s, all of which encompassed all the learning outcomes Grantham focuses on. The course taught me how to use critical thinking when we had to make a five-year plan; I look back at the plan from time to time and adjust as my goals change.

Upon my graduation in June 2019, I plan on joining a sorority. One of the requirements is to have community service hours to show how I have helped the people in need in my area. After doing my project for this course, I realized I want to find more organization like NIMH and use some if not all of what I’ve learned at Grantham. One obstacle I may face is juggling my time between work, my daughter and providing service to the community but if I can have a full school load and manage my other responsibilities now, I know I can give a few hours on the weekend. Fortunately, I will be working at one of the largest Military Treatment Facilities in the world, and I will have access to different specialties and organizations, which will allow me to volunteer whenever I can.

Going into my next position, I will be required to practices all listed outcomes. I will need critical thinking to solve and resolve an issue for my commander. I will need to articulate the intent or concerns the person filing the complaint may have. Building good relations with our civilian counterparts, setting up observances and requesting assistance from various organizations to speak to a large audience. I believe the most important lesson I’ve learned while taking this course is the difference between service learning and community service.

Unfortunately, I do not have a question this week; however, I want to say thank you for making this class interesting over the last eight weeks and motivating me to keep going when I did not want too. Hopefully, I will have you as my professor in my next capstone class, if not thank you for your help.
