Information Technology Management Issues 5
IT Workforce Hiring & Talent Retention
Name:
Institution:
Introduction:
Evolution of information technology management:
In Present days computers are being a part of management and its been hard to manage the information technologies related to the management. Well, for getting a clear image it is necessary to know the stages how management is evolved. Mainly there are three era’s like
1. Data processing(DP)
2. Management information systems(MIS)
3. Information services(IS)
The data processing era:
Earlier the computer operations were maintained by a special division called data processing. This data processing will relate all the organizations data related to firm. this can be achieved by three main components like,
a. Data entry: it relates and correlates the day to day activities of the management like inventory count in a manufacturing company.
b. Operations: this module can deal with the maintenance section along with daily reports and acts as data backup etc.
c. Applications: these kinds of applications will provide support for the system management and acts as software developer too. -------
Advantages of data processing:
The computers used for the processing are very much centralized and operated by the experts.
The applications created were(are) highly secured and are (remove are) created based on the requirements of the sponsors(clients).
Management information system era:
Management information system is also referred as computer functions. Till then smaller computer appliances were used for the data processing and for re-creation operations. Later on the new era brought the term computing which is advanced gave a direct access to the mangers ----to enter the data related to the company. This MIS has changed the system from manual to electronic entry and the control over computing is being decentralized. Later on personal pc has grown and made more felicity(flexible) for(to) the (remove the)support users. This made users to have more convenient on the computer applications like email, word etc. along with these there exist three computer environments like
a. Mainframe computing: it relates main data base like accounting.
b. Departmental computing: it is used for a particular organizational departmental section.
c. Personal computing: in personal the computer applications like word, excel which are used for the office official.
Advantages and disadvantages:
As so far it creates a platform for the computing but even though it could not reduce the complexity included in it. It create dvast number of software vendors for the part processing of the data but executives were depressed with the high cost of the technology.
Information services era:
Now a days the computer functions are being made a group resource either for commercial or business. So, to maintain these computer related programs without any crashing and all the government decided to use the information services like mainframe computer operations, servers, network infrastructure and telecommunications. Among these telecommunications are considered as major part computer networks. Along with these internet has been a easy way for entrepreneurship. So, to protect from the spam attacks and other web related scams these IS will take care regarding those issues.
Evolving from all these stages the information technology can be defined as the study, design, development and maintenance for the computer related information systems.
System management:
Systems management acts a platform which relates to the information technology of a particular company and it accomplish various tasks related to the system monitoring, some of the IT problems. This kind of management will help the small scale business users in resolving their management issues.
Benefits of system management:
1. Organizing and monitoring the system network, data backup, servers, several accessories like scanner, printers, pcs and other related devices.
2. It also deal with the program running techniques which includes the validaiotn of the program i.e. license and expirations of the operating systems, applications, configuring the new software etc.
3. Security management which helps to secure your confidential data being attached by virus or hacked.

System management necessity:
Comparing various decades the technology is being used in most of the business sectors. So, when we are using these information technology its our need to safeguard these systems in various aspects. We need to manage the information systems and protect our data assest which is possible by system management.
This can provide our IT managers to work efficiently and it resolve the issues in the software as well as in the applications which run for a long period. They help the company from threats, human errors, power storage, theft etc.
Cloud Computing:-
Cloud computing is used to connect ‘n’ number of computers to a single network and gaining different level of access across the world. It is used to reduce the IT infrastructure because it provides different type of services like servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and so on over the Cloud Computing. In present world we have different type of cloud computing like Amazon Web Services, IBM, and Salesforce etc. with different specifications which are required to others. Each service has its once implementation techniques to provide user friendly accessible.
Uses of cloud computing:-
We are probably utilizing cloud computing at the present time, regardless of the possibility that we don't understand it. Considering an general example i.e. online support of send email, alter records, watch motion pictures or television, music, games, or pictures and different documents, it's likely that cloud computing components are present with in the application has a middleware and it makes the application more conceivable in the background. Firstly cloud computing are barely a decade old, yet as of now an variety of associations—from modest new businesses to worldwide partnerships, government organizations to non-benefits—are grasping the innovation for a wide range of reasons. Here are a couple of the things you can do with the cloud:
1. It is helpful to create new apps with the help of cloud. It is really very easy to build an app because it will have some pre-defined functions within in it.
2. Data storage, backup and maintenance are user friendly in cloud.
3. We can host static and dynamic web sites for free and payment methods with the help of cloud.
4. We can deliver software on demand.
Benefits of cloud computing:-
1. Cost
2. Speed
3. Productivity
4. Flexibility
5. Performance
6. Reliability
There are some important deployment models which followed by some organizations they are
1. Public cloud
It is used to provide services over the network which is open up for all the people across the world is called public cloud service. It is free for certain usage.
2. Private cloud
It is also similar to public but the main difference is between public and private is that private services are over a single organization or maintained by third parties comes under this category.
3. Hybrid cloud
Hybrid is the combination of both the services (public and private).
Special Issues on Fog and cloud computing for cooperative Information system management challenges and opportunities.
Now-a-days most of us are using cloud based on the internet to share and receive the data from it. We might also have some issues when we are moving big data through this transportation of cloud. So people are implemented with the new technology i.e. Cooperative Information System (CIS) at the network edge. The problem with this CIS is that large amount of data can be shared to local users who are nearby this network edge. To resolve this issues expects came up with additional functionality i.e. Fog. Generally, fog computing improves the quality, the current prototype to meet the requirements like offload core network traffic, time awareness, and high security, to promote the intelligence at the network edge.
Cyber Security:-
Computer security is also known as cyber security or IT security, which is used to protect our resources from intruders. Cyber security not only protect our physical access to the hardware but also used to protect from networks.
From the following diagram we can understand from 2015 the level of correlation is equal to internet and hacking tools. It means now-a-days hacking tools are increasing day by day in internet and most of the resources are consuming those hacking tool and effected with some technical threats.
One of the most powerful hacking tool is Ransomware Cryptoworm. This Ransomware used to target computers which are working under Microsoft windows operating system by encrypting data and demanding ransom payments in Bitcoin cryptoncurrency.
After few days Marcus Hutchins who is well known as MalwareTech discovered an effective kill switch by registering a domain name he found in the code of the ransomware. With the help of this resources (kill switch) he stop the virus and researchers identified to recover the loss of data from infected systems.
Different elements in the Cyber Security to avoid threats from intruders
1. Confidentiality
2. Integrity
3. Availability
4. Authenticity and utility.
Usually attackers start searches from the initial layer to final layer when they find loop wholes which are present within the application. When type end up with final layer they are able to access our resources without need of user permission. To avoid this type of scenarios we need to follow up with following steps
1. Computer application white listening
2. Computer system restore solution
3. Computer and network authentication
4. File, disk and removable media encryption
5. Remote access authentication
6. Network folder encryption
7. Secure boundary and end to end messaging
Remote Management
As it turns out to be progressively regular for organizations to use remote workers, these organizations are finding a flood of one of a kind and new difficulties identified with groups and team members. While employing remote workers accompanies benefits, there are certainly obstacles to overcome too.
So, what are the difficulties of managing with a group that is possibly spread the whole way across the globe, and, all the more significantly, by what method would remote managers overcome these issues?
The following are the common remote management issues.
1. Scheduling Issues
2. Communication Difficulties
3. Language and Social Obstructions
4. Trouble Tracking Worker Execution
5. Absence of Trust and Union inside Your Team.
1. Scheduling Issues
Working with a remote group offers the potential for expanded efficiency, yet chiefs should likewise conquer some virtual-related wasteful aspects. For instance, a standout amongst the most troublesome difficulties is overseeing specialists over a few time zones. In case you're sticking around for a virtual worker to react to an essential email, that rapidly prompts superfluous downtime and lost potential for efficiency.
Potential Arrangements:
1. At whatever point all representatives are meeting (by means of telephone, video chat, or video gathering), discover a period that falls inside everybody's workday.
2. Record gatherings for workers who can't attend live.
3. Gather feedback with respect to meetings by means of email.
2. Communication Difficulties
Organizing with virtual colleagues, correspondence can be a major hindrance for some organizations attempting to effectively explore remote contracts. Representatives can likewise feel detached from the group and friends.
Potential arrangements:
1. Make utilization of correspondence based innovative instruments. Texting, talk, and other two-way correspondence channels.
2. Ought to be as responsive and accessible to a remote representative as any on location laborer.
3. Consider having a couple face to face or in-office commitments for your telecommuters.
4. A telecommuter should know well ahead of time if and when an in-person appearance is fundamental.
3. Language and Social Obstructions
Managing a universally various workforce including social and dialect partitions. These distinctions can affect how workers connect with each other and how they organize project tasks.
Potential Arrangements:
1. Remote workers to share experiences and insights about their culture and geographic locales. This helps to reduce social related mistaken assumptions, and it fortifies bonds among colleagues.
2. The Manager, should to be particularly watchful about taking in the social contrasts amongst you and your representatives.
3. Should be certain about projects aims, due dates, and expectations.
4. Trouble Tracking Worker Execution
Ensuring representatives finish all their activity obligations, for others, it is more imperative to be occupied with the work for a set number of hours daily. For that second gathering, following their execution can be troublesome. Ensuring all the work is finished and representatives are utilizing their opportunity effectively and properly.
Potential Arrangements:
1. When you manage remote workers, you have significantly less understanding into how task is completing.
2. To avoid issues, it's useful to have a quantitative approach to assess a remote worker commitments.
3. Time tracking programming gives you the quantitative information you need gainful and successful discourses about time administration.
5. Absence of Trust and Union inside Your Team.
Personal collaborations and day by day engagement make sentiments of trust and holding among the group individuals. With a remote group, you don't have that same favorable position.
Potential Arrangements
1. Schedule time for group building exercises keeping in mind the end goal to create bonds among the remote colleagues.
2. Put a premium on video gatherings. Seeing each other's countenances is the following best thing to meeting face to face.
3. Trust your workers, however use time-following programming. It keeps everyone responsible.
4. Emphasize the significance of your organization culture and your ability to be there for your representatives.
Effectively dealing with a remote group can offer your organization huge advantages, however addressing the related difficulties requires some investment, practice, and tolerance.
IT Workforce Hiring & Talent Retention
Information technology is a field that continues to see tremendous growth and the trend is set to keep the soaring. The reason for this aspect is the competition in the field since there is always new talent developing across the globe. Competition is so fierce that companies sort them out of their geographical locations and considering moving the candidates from where the talent is abundant. Numerous offers for the talented candidates in the industry make retention an issue in many firms. Retention of expertise in IT companies has become critical hence; recruitment of skilled individuals and making sure financial resources for scouting for talent is available has become paramount (James,& Mathew, 2012). The most prominent issues of hiring and retaining talent in the companies are can be placed on the bad managers in the firms. Little is done to fix the management departments that do not do more to keep talent in companies.
As researches show, many people do not quit the companies but instead quit the management. Managers have a more significant impact on the employee performance. Consequently, many firms have done little to make sure there are solutions in place that identify and fix or fire weak/ bad managers. Many mangers in businesses are unaware preventing turnover since they do not know the value and many are not trained in retention of employees. Despite the knowledge of significant implications for lousy management on productivity, many IT companies ignore ways to solve these issues (Deery, 2008). Another issue in hiring and retention is the position and employee prioritization. It is plausible that employees have a probability of leaving a firm for another. As accurate as it is, not all employees opt to leave the businesses. Some need considerations when there is an appraisal and promotions in the company. When a company fails to prioritize and consider positions for the employees in the company, there is a likelihood of losing employees to other companies.
Solutions
For companies to make sure they retain their employees and talent in the firms, they have to make solutions to issues that affect the employee loyalty. One of the most useful tools in retention is strategic planning in the HR department on developing talent acquisition process and active involvement of the entire staff. Only the stuff will tell how other employees influence the company negatively or positively. In order to overcome these challenges, the company has to make sure there is a talent management system that ensures talent is retained in the firm.
Further, the company has to make the organization more attractive in the form of branding. Most talented and best individuals will choose a company if they feel it is the favorable brand. To retain and attract talent and best employees the firm has to make itself an entity that makes the employees feel they need to be part of the organization. It should be done internally and externally (Deery, 2008).
Poaching of talent is real, and many organizations lack ways to prevent poaching. It is sad to create a prodigy only to be poached by another company when the firm needs them most. One of the plausible ways is to make the targeted employees make notes in one of the recruiter pitch and have them share with the company in order to scrutinize the arguments raise to convince them and the offers on the table (Heinen, & O'Neill, 2004). Afterwards, restructure the business countering the offers and retain the employees. With this valuable information taken the company can utilize it in making plans that combat future external poaching.
