Group Project
Part 1) Planning Portion/ Peer Review (Teamwork/Critical thinking)
You will pick a group yourself. The group can be someone in the class, other classes, friends, roommates, and or family members. The group can have from 2-5 members, counting yourself. Your group is going to create a list of ten selections that will be put into a “Musical Time Capsule”. How your group picks the ten selections, is up to you and the group. The ten selections can be from any genre, time period, etc. You may want to go with a decade approach. Or ten songs that cover a certain topic, i.e. love, social commentary, emotional reaction, popularity, etc. Perhaps ten songs that have influence other music. It is up to your group. Use the Internet to listen to different types of music. Use your class notes, textbook, and online recordings. Consult with your classmates, friends, siblings, cousins, parents, grandparents, etc., to gain a broader perspective.
Part 2) Report on the class project (Critical thinking/Written communication/Oral communication) First, list your song selections. 10 Rhythm & Blues songs
Then write Report (about 2 pages, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point font) discussing the process of how your group selected its list of ( R&B selection ..ten musical selections. What was your group’s thought process? Discuss how your group selected the merits used to pick the musical selections. Discuss whether this list of music selections would be valid twenty, one hundred, or one thousand years from today? Were there any musical sections you would add or delete? Why or why not? Do the group’s choices match your own? Discuss the merits you used to narrow the musical selections to your final ten. ***Would you describe your teamwork process as a success? Why or why not? Now that the teamwork process is complete, what would you have done differently or the same? Reflect about your own contribution to the team's functioning. What did you well? What would you have done differently?
****-Also if you talked to your classmates, friends, siblings, cousins, parents, grandparents, etc., to gain a broader perspective, talk about that process. You need not answer every question from above, I want to give you many options to help you write a two-page paper. If you have any citations, you can list them.
