Groupon Merchant Case Study: Big & Little’s Builds Word-of-Mouth, Five Years Running

English

Groupon champions small businesses by connecting customers and merchants with their communities through eective local business marketing campaigns.

In the video below, Gary and Tony, owners of Big & Little’s restaurants in Chicago, share how their partnership with Groupon Merchant resulted in a boon of repeat customers — some returning sooner than you’d think.

Big & Little’s places a premium on great service. Their food is high quality but prepared quickly so diners don’t have to wait long. And depending on the ingredients the restaurant has in stock, they will make whatever dish their customers request. Gary and Tony — “Big” and “Little,” respectively — joke that they would prepare and deep-fry a pork belly, soft shell crab, egg and foie gras sandwich if asked.

In 2012, they approached Groupon to not only bring in new customers but build extended loyalty. The rst step was to get more diners in the door.

Gary and Tony’s deals have yielded results right away, and they’ve maintained a steady ow of customers over the ve years they’ve worked with Groupon. “This is why I love Groupon: When we do launch a Groupon we notice [customers] come back a couple of weeks later and buy another Groupon,” Tony says. This trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down, either, as they continue to partner with Groupon.

Gary is also impressed by the enthusiasm that Groupon drives:

“We have customers who will come in for lunch and use their Groupon, and later that day they’ll return with their signicant other because they want to show them this amazing restaurant that they found,” he says.

Other Groupon Merchants see similar outcomes. Roughly 81% of customers who use Groupon say they are likely to visit the merchant again1. Groupon merchants also witness increased word-of-mouth: 60% of Groupon users referred restaurants to other people in their network2. In the case of Big & Little’s, that’s many more diners ready to benet from killer customer service — and potentially chow down on a deep-fried sandwich monstrosity.
