Essay Sport Facilities
Group 8 Proposal. Eric Myers, Andres Urbina, Donovan Stiner, CJ Williams, Konnor McHale.
Our proposal is for a brand-new arena that’s main function is to host competitive esports matches and championships. Esports is a fast-growing market and there is a need and opportunity to create the new standard in competitive esports facilities. Creating a new Esports facility not only brings value to the community by offering a new, trending, and competitive avenues of entertainment to the area, but also helps grow the awareness of the sport. The target audience of our facility are gamers but more specifically those who play and enjoy watching, overwatch, league of legends, FPS games, and competitive sports franchises such as 2k basketball and Madden football.
One of the ways we intend to capture the target market in our community is giving competitive Esports franchises that base their teams out of Florida a facility in which they can create home game experiences. These teams being, Heat Check Gaming, the Miami Heat’s 2k League team, and Florida Mayhem, the team that represents Florida in the very popular Overwatch League.
Our project will be a 60 million, 75,000 square foot arena that will be built on vacant land next to the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood/Miami Gardens, Florida, and is expected to hold 5,000 people. The property will be acquired by partnering with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and Hard Rock Casino, offering them partial ownership to the arena, and the major corporate sponsors of the Overwatch League and the 2k League such as, Toyota, State Farm, and Coca-Cola to name a few, will privately fund the project of building the arena, and also bid for naming rights to the arena. Not only will having the Florida based Esports teams create marketability for the arena, having a strong established brand, and casino, like Hard Rock as a partner will create great marketing opportunities. Because the Hard Rock will have a major stake in the arena, it can be used for other events as well, such as comedy shows and concert, and will already have established parking lots and garages that will be shared with the arena, although a small parking lot may have to be built in front of the arena to handle the extra traffic. Having the Hard Rock Casino partner will also help boost ticket sales for the arena by advertising events at their properties. But, because the arena will not have events every night, staff will be hired and brought in part time by outside vendors in order to save money.
The arena which will be constructed by the company Populous, will include a state of the art main stage that has a double balcony on each side in order to accommodate four teams, the teams on stage and in the balcony above the stage, there will also be two main jumbo screens to either side of the stage where the audience can view the competition from either the telescopic seating arrangements surrounding the stage from threes sides or the double balcony on each of the walls. Another feature is the surround sound integrated seating that arena will be available for each seat, which will also include USB and headphone slots in each seat to offer not only the opportunity to charge devices, but allow the audience to plug in their own gaming headsets to experience the sounds of the game as if they were playing themselves. Also included in the features is the main ticket booth in the front of the building, along with team novelty stores when you walk in. The arena will include enough ecofriendly bathrooms for 5,000 people and areas outside of the seating area that will sell alcohol and concession that will be bid on by different restaurants in order to secure their spot.
One thing I deem as an extremely important variable in the project is the use of state of the art technology, since most of the target audience are gamers, technology will play a huge role in the success of the arena, and will create an environment that gamers will truly enjoy and want to experience again and again.
