  Our family consists of a single mother, Sarah, of four children. The father, Jacob, is absent as he is currently incarcerated. The eldest child, Katie, is 14, and she carries a lot of responsibility at home. The second eldest child, Jimmy, is 10. The next child, Tyler, is 5. The youngest, Gabby, is 3. After Jacob’s incarceration, the family lost financial stability. Sarah is working two jobs to make ends meet. Problems will include children with an incarcerated parent, and single-parent households living in poverty.  

Sarah (35) is a mother of 4 who is married to Jacob (37) and he has been incarcerated for 1 year and 3 months. Sarah has been working two jobs Jacob has been incarcerated in order to make ends meet. The children Katie (14), Jimmy (10), Tyler (5) and Gabby (3) Have to depend on Katie because Sarah is never home due to having to work two jobs. Katie being the oldest is feeling depressed and overwhelmed because of the responsibility of taking care of her sibling’s while her mother is working. Katie starts to act out at school and her grades as well as her sibling’s grades are very low. The teacher tried to reach out to Sarah but received no answer. Child Protection Service was called to go by the home to check on the children. Once the social worker spoke with Sarah and the children she found that services were needed in the home. One service was SNAP this service would help Sarah keep food on the table every month. She also offered TANF which is money that she could use for gas or personal things that’s needed. These services would help Sarah not have to work so much and she could be home with the children more. The social worker also set up individual and family therapy and trauma treatment (CBT) which will help them as a family or individual to deal with the incarceration of Jacob and what they are feeling. This will help them to learn how to adjust to the changes in their life and work on moving forward from the present in a positive way. The social work also set up after school tutoring which will help the children get their grades back up and keep the focused in school.
