SPCH 1311 - GROUP CULTURE PRESENTATION
150 POINTS TOTAL (Over all Group Grade = 100 Points, Individual Grade = 50 Points)
DUE DATE: Week 14 (Presentations Given No Later Than 12/5)
REQUIREMENTS
1. The purpose of this assignment is to inform the class about another culture's channels of communication. Your group may choose any culture other than American. I will limit the topics to one culture per group. For example, once a group has chosen to discuss French culture, no other group can discuss that culture.
2. This must be a researched presentation. Two outside sources per group member are required (e.g. 4 members= 8 sources). You will turn in one Works Cited for the group. Use MLA or APA format. Each person must verbally cite their sources during their portion of the presentation.
3. As far as what to discuss, there are many interesting areas. For example, you may want to choose dress, the celebration of holidays, and gestures. Or slang, common customs, and values. Refer to chapter 3 to get some ideas about the different ways communication can vary between cultures.
4. The length of your presentation will vary depending on how many group members you have. Each person must speak for about 5 minutes, and there will be some extra time allotted to account for the introduction and conclusion. (For example, if you have 4 group members your presentation should be 20-25 minutes long).
5. Each person must present an equal portion of the material. In other words, all of you must speak about the same amount of time (5 minutes).
6. You may use note cards; however, you may NOT read your part of the presentation.
7. You will receive a group grade on this presentation (100 points) and an individual grade (50 points).
8. You will deliver these presentations as a group over Zoom (unless the entire group agrees to pre-record the presentation and someone is capable of editing it together to be one continuous video). You may use visual aids. Be conscious of how the audience will be able to see your VA over a zoom presentation and adjust accordingly.
9. If you have any questions about the assignment, please ask well in advance of the assignment due date!
10. Below is a sample outline to follow for your presentation. You will type up a full sentence outline and turn it in the day of your presentation. Depending on your group size, you should cover 3-4 main points in your presentation (Usually one main point per group member).
