Through Marxist lens, college degrees provide more career opportunities, highly motivated to work, and lower-class to achieve a higher socioeconomic status.

• Shanyn’s Personal Experience – my older sister graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in teaching. Back then, teachers were getting pink slips to be let go from their jobs. My sisters’ job was secure at the time, but she was still concerned she could get let go any time. My sister decided to go back to school to get her master’s in teaching for more career opportunities.

• Mia’s Personal Experience - I’m obtaining my degree purely to be able to get the job I want faster. I don’t really enjoy school or taking general education classes but having a degree on my resume would allow me to attain my dream job quicker than if I didn’t get an education. I’ll be more motivated to work after obtaining my degree

because of the years of hard work in order to get my dream job at Disney.

• Ibrahim’s Personal experience - Many people I met were from the lower class and struggling financially. After obtaining their college degree, I saw a big transition in their life. For example, my friend Yaser was living a hard life. I used to invite him to dinner so he could have better food. The food he used to eat was anything he could find. Sometimes he would have just bread and milk because that is what could get. However. When he obtained his college degree in law and became a lawyer, his life status changed totally. From the lower class who used to eat bread and milk to a man who drives fancy cars.)
