Group Proposal Paper
Write at least a paragraph introduction. Remember that paragraphs must be at least three complete sentences in length. Strong introductions are important as you transition into content.
Theory
This section will be 2 – 3 pages. For this section, describe the basic tenants of one counseling theory. Reference/cite Gladding, Wagner and Ingersoll and at least 1 scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article. Concisely discuss the framework of the basics of the theory to demonstrate knowledge of the subject. Also, include how you will incorporate Motivational Interviewing (and cite) throughout this section as this is also a requirement when addressing addictions.

Session Outlines
These do NOT need to be in current APA or paragraph style. Use the structure and format provided below to ensrue all information is included. This section will be a total of 4–8 pages.
Session 1
OBJECTIVE(S): List 1 to 3 specific objectives you would like to accomplish in this session. You must address the following objectives in the first session: Introductions (5 points), group guidelines (5 points), group goals (5 points) and individual goals (5 points) in this first session.

TIME ALLOTED: 90 minutes (all groups required to be 90 minutes)
SUPPLIES: List specific supplies need (paper, pencils, clipboards, chairs, drinks, snacks – what does your group need?)
GROUP SET-UP: Discuss specific group set up and rationale for group
Per the rubric, each session objective must have a specific activity, exercise or process to address how it will be accomplished. Session objectives are narrower than group goals and are to be accomplished within an individual session. Additionally, please include how much time will be allotted for each activity.
For the first session, write how you will address introductions and group guidelines. What activity will you employ to ensure group members have been properly introduced and understand guidelines? Be sure to include actual guidelines you will have for your group.
Next, it is imperative to address your overarching group goals. Group goals are distinct from session objectives as they describe the basic purpose of the group and are to be kept in mind throughout the group process. What goals, informed by your theory and specific to your group population, will you work towards throughout the course of your group’s four sessions?
Lastly, demonstrate how you will ensure each member has voiced an individual goal they are working on.
Remember that your theoretical approach and Motivational Interviewing must be connected to each session.
Session 2

Session 4
OBJECTIVE: List 1 to 3 specific objectives you would like to accomplish in this session. You must address the following objectives in the last session: review of group goals, individual goals, life application of group content and feelings towards termination.

SUPPLIES: List specific supplies.
GROUP SET-UP: Discuss specific group set up and rationale for this set up.
This will be the termination session for the group. Per the rubric, you must review and assess group and individual goals. List an activity, exercise or process to demonstrate how this will be accomplished.
Lastly, demonstrate how the leader will ensure a review of what has been learned and how it will be applied to life. Additionally, address how the leader will facilitate processing feelings towards termination from group members and leaders.
** For each objective in each session, remember to list an activity to demonstrate how it will be accomplished. Write concisely and coherently while providing enough details to ensure your group can be easily replicated.
Screening
This section will be 1 full page. Explain the intended population desired for your group, giving as many details as possible. Next, address the criteria for who should not be in the group, providing as many details as possible.
In list or bullet format, include the screening questions you will use to select participants in your group. Be sure that your screening questions include the de-selection criteria and assess client’s readiness for group. See Gladding text for further information and cite rationale.
Problem Solving
Use this final section to thoroughly address four potential problem areas you may encounter in group work. Current APA headings will ensure that each section is fully addressed. Be sure to describe the problem and how you will handle the member . This section will be 2–4 pages.
