Great Places project #1

Review the Characteristics and Guidelines of Great Places in America above.

Also go to the APA website (planning.org)  and review sites that have already been selected under "Community outreach."

Select a Street, Neighborhood or Public Space from your own experience. IT CANNOT BE ONE THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SELECTED.  It is strongly recommended to select a place you have seen in person.

In selecting your place be sure to read thoroughly the full document describing the requirements. For instance, Public Spaces must be at least 10 years old. Carefully review the "Description" section of your place to ensure that you properly identify it correctly.  Location of spaces, boundaries of neighborhoods and starting and ending points of streets must be clearly defined.

For each category there is a specific list of "Characteristics and Guidelines" which must be addressed. There are many questions asked which must be answered.

Each paper must provide a Description and meet most of the Guidelines. You must use the lists provided in the reading to be able to successfully complete your project.

Your paper must be 2 - 3 pages, single spaced. A map and pictures attached to the paper are highly recommended. Be sure to state in the title of your paper whether you are writing about a Great Neighborhood, Street or Public Space.
