Grading of the Term-based Case Analysis Paper MGMT6352

(Total Points = 250)

To ensure student ability to analyze and evaluate effectiveness of strategic use of information systems in a business firm, you are assigned by your instructor to work with your classmate to conduct a case study and write a case analysis paper based on this case study. To help you understand how to write this case analysis paper and to complete this project, a case study paper by Lehrer, Wieneke, Brocke, Jung, and Seidel (2018) is placed in this folder. The case analysis paper should be 10 to 15 pages in length, including the diagrams and appendix you feel appropriate. You must cite your reference sources through the text and include a reference list using APA style at the end. The paper is to be typed, 1.5-spaced, and in a readable 12-point Arial type font with one- inch margins on four sides. This term based case analysis paper should satisfy the following paper structure and

requirements:

Title: How Big Data Analytics Enables Service Innovation in <Your Selected Organization>

Abstract (20 points) Write an abstract of less than or equal to 150 words using the pattern of the abstract in the paper by Lehrer, Wieneke, Brocke, Jung, and Seidel (2018).

Introduction (30 points)

1. Define and explain the term “service innovation”. Define and explain the term “Big Data Analytics (BDA).”

2. Read the paper by Lehrer, Wieneke, Brocke, Jung, and Seidel (2018) carefully,

and discuss the major findings in the literature on service innovation, big data and big data analytics.

3. What is the existing gap in literature and in practice on digitally enabled service

innovation?

4. Please point out the research question and primary research objectives of your paper.

Research Method (30 points) Please answer the following four questions: What is the research approach used in the study as reported in your paper? What are the accepted measures of the findings from qualitative research? What did you do to satisfy those measures? What did you do to ensure the reliability of the results? (Please refer to the relevant part in the paper for useful clues.)

Case Organization Selection (30 points)

1. Is big data analytics used for service innovation in your organization?

2. If your organization uses big data analytics for service innovation, please write a

relevant case study by modeling after one of the four cases in the paper by

Lehrer, Wieneke, Brocke, Jung, and Seidel (2018).

3. Please refer to Table 1 to write an overview of your case organization. All the

variables are given in Column 1 of the table.

Data collection (30 points)

1. Please read carefully this section in the paper by Lehrer, Wieneke, Brocke, Jung,

and Seidel (2018).

2. Describe the details of your data collection process.

3. Develop a table of interview partners.

4. Develop a set of open-ended questions by adapting the interview questions as listed in the Appendix on page 36.

5. Your interview questions must focus on the three issues as stated clearly on

page 10

6. Please display your interview protocol in an appendix, if any changes are made over the original question set. If you simply use the original questions in your study, simply mention it in the text without creating any appendix.

7. Feel free to use any publicly available documents and internal information for the

case organization background description in terms of the BDA infrastructures, data strategies, and current practices that were related to service innovation.

Data Analysis (30 points)

1. Please analyze your case as a separate study to focus on the collected case data and to highlight your case’s unique pattern or characteristics.

2. All the case study examples are provided from page 13 to page 23.

3. Performed a within-case analysis by following the procedures as described on page 12.

4. Aggregate the findings of the within-case analyses in order to determine whether

they made sense beyond each individual case.

Findings (30 points) Please report whether your findings support the theoretical model of BDA-enabled service innovation in Figure 1 on page 23. To what extent and in which ways your case study findings support the model. To what extent and in which ways your case study findings do not support the model. Please also provide some possible reasons for your findings.
