Personal Journal Reflection Grading Rubric

You will need to complete 2 personal journal reflections over the course of the semester - 1 will need to be completed at the beginning of the semester (Week 1) and 1 more will need to be completed at the end of the semester (Week 15). The grading criteria for personal journal reflection entries are:

Criteria Superior Average Poor

Content & Critical Thinking

The post is more than 300 words in length and does more than simply answer the question. Critical thinking is demonstrated by linking ideas to real-world examples and relating them to the key ideas of the course.

+ 10 points

The post is 250 to 300 words in length and does more than simply answer the question. Critical thinking has been attempted.

+ 7 points

The post is less than 250 words in length and/or only answers the question posed. No critical thinking is

demonstrated.

+ 4 points

Reflective Thinking

Entry shows extensive evidence of a personal response to the issues raised in the course materials. Connections have been made between ideas in the course, and examples of real world or personal experiences have been provided as support for the ideas expressed.

+ 7 points

Entry demonstrates some evidence of a personal response to the issues raised in the course materials. An attempt to connect ideas in the course is apparent, and/or to provide examples of real world or personal experiences as support for the ideas expressed.

+ 5 points

No personal response to the issues raised in the course materials is apparent. No attempt has been made to connect ideas in the course or to provide examples of real world or personal experiences as support for the ideas expressed.

Grammar Punctuation & Spelling

No grammar, punctuation or spelling errors are present.

Less than 5 grammar, punctuation, and/or spelling errors present.
