Role of Mobile Applications in Heath Information Management

Introduction

According to Scott (2020), health information management refers to gathering, analysis, protecting, storing and securing of the patient’s health information. The information can either be base in papers and hybrid as well as electronic. Use of technology is fully revolutionizing the healthcare sector. Mobile apps have provided patients with easy access to personal data, doctor’s information, critical services at the comfort of their homes. As health apps increases for smartphones and tablets, many people are able to use in order to control their health.

Problem statement

Mobile applications have played a major role in health information management. However, many people do not recognize the extent at which it has improved the healthcare sector. Therefore, this paper will clearly outline how mobile apps are very crucial and has enhanced the health information management in healthcare facilities. Currently, there are more than 97,000 health applications available for tablets and mobile phones. Zion market research have revealed that the market for mobile health apps will be more than $111 billion by 2025 (Healthinformatics.uic.edu, 2020). There is need for people to be aware of where they have come from and where they are as well as where they are headed. The topic is related to my CPT which is mobile applications in various domains. The project is feasible in this semester since it only requires use of secondary materials to provide the required data. this one of the topic I have been longing to carry out since it is an interesting one.

I believe that the topic is SMART. First the topic is specific since it is targeting the Information and Technology (IT) industry. Secondly, it is measurable because based on the history of healthcare sector and the current technology used, there are many measurable changes that have occurred. The topic is realistic since it is evident that is people are aware of where they come from and where they are, they tend to appreciate the process. therefore, I believe that providing this information will help many to understand the process as well as motivate the mobile app developers due to the significant change thy have brought in healthcare industry. The time frame for this project is realistic since be the end of the semester the data will be ready.

I believe that many studies have been undertaken showing the importance of health mobile apps but this study is unique since it will provide what was done before the innovation of mobile apps. This project will also provide detailed information about how efficiency has grown due to development of mobile apps. I believe that this study will greatly contribute to the existing knowledge about mobile health apps. Health information management is very crucial in healthcare since it involves analytical skills, technological skills, problem solving and clear communication. Due to increased need for proper communication in healthcare facilities, mobile developers has played a major role to enhance communication.

Mobile health is crucial in helping rural patients who majorly face the challenge of shortage of educational programs and physicians. Living in rural areas makes it hard for many to travel to doctor’s office for the treatment. mobile apps have made everything easier since one can communicate with the doctor through the apps and get detailed information about their health. This has increased efficiency in the healthcare facilities and saved many lives. It helps healthcare providers to perform virtual visits and collect data from patients in many areas where people are not able to access care services. Through research, the most used health apps are pregnancy apps, chronic illness apps and diabetes apps. There is need for me to provide detailed about such apps and this is the reason I chose to pursue the topic.
