I. Introduction

A. Terrorism is significant threat to the security of the United States.

B. In recent years, terrorist have used advanced technologies come up with new ways to conduct terrorism activities (Klein, Gruenewald & Smith, 2017).

C. The increased threat to the security of Americans required a proactive approach to prevent attacks.

D. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created to protect the country from terrorism threats.

E. Homeland security plays a significant role in the fight against terrorism in the United States because it prevents terrorism attacks, prevent unauthorized acquisition of terrorist materials and protect critical infrastructure.

II. Body

A. Prevention of Terrorism Attacks

1. This involves developing aviation safety program and development of air cargo screening technology (White, 2016).

2. Reporting suspicious activities in supply chain

3. Development of approaches to prevent the country from threats related to explosives.

4. Provide training programs to create awareness about terrorism I the public and private sector (Sykes, 2018).

B. Unauthorized acquisition of terrorist materials

1. Develops guidelines for chemical acquisition and use in the United States

2. Provide assistance the high risk chemical facilities

3. Review and approve the activities carried out by chemical companies in the country.

4. Provide low cost training, documents and seminars for companies operating in the chemical sector to improve their emergency management and response

5. Continuous briefing to the natural, oils and chemical subsectors o terrorism threats facing the subsectors (McEntire, 2018).

C. Protect critical infrastructure

1. Provide active shooter resources to mitigate the risk of active shooter situation.

2. Provide training course to both public and private organization concerning protection of critical infrastructure (Sykes, 2018).

3. Prepare the local jurisdiction for dealing with terrorism situations

4. Development of procedures to identify threats to critical infrastructure

III. Conclusion

A. In conclusion, Homeland security plays a significant role in the fight against terrorism in the United States as it prevents terrorism attacks, prevent unauthorized acquisition of terrorist materials and protect critical infrastructure.

B. DHS prevents terrorism attacks by developing aviation safety program and development of air cargo screening technology (Comiskey, 2018).

C. It prevents unauthorized acquisition of terrorist materials by developing guidelines for chemical acquisition and use in the United States and providing assistance the high risk chemical facilities.
