You have read the Business Ethics lecture notes, reviewed the PP slides, and watched the film
Lord of War. Answer each of the following questions. 1-5 are relatively easy. It should take only
a minute to answer each of these questions. But if you feel the need to expand your answer, you
can. Be sure your answers are clearly communicated and show your understanding of the film’s
ideas.
Questions 6. 7 & 8 will require some added explanation and detail, which will prove you
understand these larger BUSINESS ETHICS concepts – good luck.
1. In the beginning of the film Lord of War, Yuri witnesses a shooting at a rival restaurant, The Palace. Why is Yuri at The Palace?
2. Yuri’s father claims to be what religion?
3. Yuri changes the name of the ship he is on from the “Kristol” to what? Why does he do this?
4. What does Yuri do with his airplane loaded with guns to avoid being captured by Jack Valentine? Why is this GOOD business? Be specific.
5. What is brown-brown?
6. Vitali is a very important character. Yuri asks Vitali, “Why are you so fucked up all the time? Why? Why? Why?” Vitali provides no answer. Explain why is Vitali so
messed up? (Hint: it is NOT because of his drug addiction.)
7. Yuri is a great businessman. He is an excellent liar. Is lying an essential part of success in the business world? Why or why not?
8. OK, all business majors who are mad at me: now’s your chance to stand up for yourself and the other business people of the world!!! Make your case: tell me I am
wrong; explain HOW an ethical, honest, caring individual (like you) can become a
GREAT BUSINESS PERSON! (i.e. = very, very, very, very, very RICH!!!) If you
don’t believe this is possible, explain why not.
