Introduction
KBR is currently facing significant challenges related to its human resource management. The company is facing high turnover rates, no standardization in operating procedures and absence of training and development of employees. The company can reform its workforce by implementing significant changes in its hiring and employee development policies. Implementing employee training programs play a critical role in equipping employees with the relevant skills and knowledge.
Body
As the business world evolves, new skills and knowledge is required in the workplace to ensure that an organization can compete effectively. Therefore, employee training is important. Absence of trained workforce means that the company will have poorly skilled workforce and it will be hard to achieve high productivity levels by the organization (Maryville University). Employee training is a continuous process and hence it is challenging to set a specific timeframe to train employees. Employee training is determined by emergency of a new technology that requires employees to have new skills and knowledge. Therefore, there is no specific timeframe for employee training rather than a continuous process. Employee training can easily be measured through performance and revenues.
If employees possess the right skills and knowledge. They are more likely to perform their roles effectively hence high productivity and revenues. Therefore, it is easy to measure the effectiveness of employee training programs by evaluating productivity and revenues. In addition, employees are more likely to leave employment especially if they are looking for career development. Therefore, employee training and career development would result in low employee turnover since employees are more satisfied and feel valued by the company.
The challenge facing KBR is that it hires on contractual basis and thus it becomes hard for the company to develop employees it does not plan to keep for a long period of time. Therefore, the company needs to change its hiring policies from short term to long term so that it can invest in developing its workforce by equipping employees with the right skills and knowledge through training and career development (Maryville University).
Conclusion
Changing the hiring process will have significant impact to the company. First, it will reduce the cost associated with hiring employees on short-term basis. In addition, it will allow the company to develop and train its long-term workforce fully immersed into the organizational culture and understands the long-term goals of the organization.
