First Inaugural Speech Analysis

Historical Situation Lincoln got elected for president and alot of people thought that he was trying to get rid of slavery because he’s anti slavery. But he isn’t tryibng to get rid of it.

Appeal/Message Lincoln tries to moderate the public by addressing the problem of slavery and telling them he doesn’t want to get rid of it.

Slavery Lincoln says he understands both sides of the situation and that even though some think some thing slavery is right and others think slavery is ethically wrong, he does not want to end it.

Secession Lincoln demands that the south sould not leave the union because its something he doesn’t support it. He’s open to taking them back into the union.

The Civil War Lincoln also says the civil war basically won’t happen because the south shouldn’t leave the union, and they shouldn’t leave because it is unconstitutional. Both sides sould sycronize and not be emiemies.

Emancipation Proclamation Analysis

Historical Situation The union of the north had been fighting the south union and had been losing for more than a year. The Antienum battle was their first significant win, so therefore Lincoln used that as an opportunity to take youtube the Emancipation Proclamation in order to retain the south.

Appeal/Message Lincoln wants to coexist and since the south is so set on about leaving the union they are ordered that should free their slaves. He wants the south to come together to live with the unity again.

Slavery Lincoln speaks of the slaves as a place to keep them safe. He also offers to aid them in the north since he’s aware that the southerners won’t be happy that they have to free their slaves.

Secession LIncoln is saying the south can’t leave the union and their revolt has caused a war. In order to endore the unity he orders them to free the slaves withing 100 days.

The Civil War Lincoln says the war began because of the southern Lincoln says that the Emancipation Proclamation is to suppress those who rebelled against the union.

Gettysburg Address Analysis

Historical Situation The battle of Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest battles but it was the first significant wins for the union. He gave the Gettysburg Address to spread hopefulness and desire for the union.

Appeal/Message Lincoln’s message was to create a whole throughout the union because of their win. He strongly feels that things are improving within the union. Lincoln wants everyone to know that their hard work is paying off and they he is encouraging them to continue to fight for what they believe is right.

Slavery He says, “All men are created equal” and also says, “The nation has gotten a “new birth of freedom” which basically is saying that even though he didn’t want to end slavery at first, now it is morally right for the nation.

Secession Lincoln has confidence that the south is becoming weak and that it is time for them to work their hardest to fight off the hazard or their nation’s going to split aside.

The Civil War Despite the fact that Lincoln did not want the nation to fight one another, that’s what it has came too and now it is one side vs the other side.

Second Inaugural Speech Analysis

Historical Situation Lincoln’s been re-elected for president and gives his second Inaugural speech for presidency. Lincoln lets the people know that during this time it’s important to keep following through.

Appeal/Message Lincoln’s message was that they have come far and able to fight off the challenge from the other side that came their way. That is why he has ambition that the war will be ending soon.

Slavery Lincoln feels that slavery was the reason of the war that is going on. Also that the idea of slavery being ended within the south caused them to awaken against the north. He also mentions that its not just to take the others freedom away but to make you stable and well.

Secession Lincoln’s strongly thinks that the south is mistaken for using their religion to account for something so dreadful. He feels that the war is the result of their wrongdoings, also that the south’s defeats are a straightforward outcome of what they have committed.

The Civil War Lincoln has faith that alot could have completed to try to get away from the war. The south are in the wrong for jarring the war on, and the North was wrong for carrying it on. But, he has a feeling that the war is coming to an end.
