Critical Task Three: 3-Day Lesson Plan
You will create a three day lesson plan on a topic of your choice. However, you want to draw from the resources that you collected in your Social Studies Resource Project. This lesson must be constructed as either an Inquiry Lesson or an Issues-Oriented Lesson Plan. You need to adhere to the lesson plan format for the Social Studies Program. This means that you must include the following components:
The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) national standards and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for Social Studies. The Objectives for the lesson A Hook (or introductory set) At least one Main Activity All of the procedures for the activities [think about how you will group students, how you will transition them into different groupings, how they will get materials]/ For any discussion of material you must develop a list of questions you would use to facilitate this discussion.

A conclusion activity that brings the lesson to a conclusion An evaluation of student learning The description of how the lesson adheres to the principles of MIVCA (powerful teaching strategies for social studies) Appendices with all of the materials needed to teach the lesson.
After you develop this lesson I want you to write a 1-2 page narrative. In this narrative you should discuss how this lesson could be applied to an overarching essential question to motive learning and help students think-critically. You want to discuss how you would establish a classroom climate of respect to support students taking the types of risks necessary for inquiry and issues-based lessons. You will also need to discuss how you can help students respect their peers’ thoughts and contributions in class.
Remember this lesson should be thoroughly outlined and all of the materials necessary to teach should be included. [In other words if I was a substitute teacher I should be able to walk into your classroom and, after making copies of the materials, effectively teach your lesson]. You will be evaluated on the levels of scaffolding of instruction provided in your lesson plan, your ability to link the lesson with appropriate standards, and your ability to articulate instruction for a classroom of fairness, inquiry and equity. You will also be evaluated on your ability to integrate technology as well as additional subject area discipline areas to support this lesson. See attached rubric for the methods of evaluation.
