Is Justice Served? What Rawls and Kant Might Say

Based upon the 2 readings I attached (Rawls' theory of justice

& Kantian Ethics) , You will conduct a comparative analysis of Rawls' Theory of Justice and Kantian Ethics:

1. Define each theory in your own words. Cite the text book if you paraphrase!

2. Observe how they are similar. An example will strengthen your essay.

3. Observe how they are different. An example will strengthen your essay.

4. Now, you will consider a topical question from the perspectives of Rawl and Kant:

Is the global Coronavirus pandemic having similar effects on everyone in the US? Do NOT consider differences related to health outcomes by age or underlying health conditions - we know the people in those groups are more susceptible to negative health outcomes.  With those two exceptions, you may wish to think about the many ways we categorize people - by gender, age, race, ethnicity, home language, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, education, socio-economic status, mental or physical abilities, citizenship status, etc. and/or systems and institutions - private, public, and government - in the context of experiencing or responding to a global pandemic. Do some research. In this section of your essay:

. First describe in some detail how a proponent of Rawls, using the tools in his Theory of Justice toolbox, would answer the question. A strong essay will include his two principles - equality/freedom and the difference principle.

. Next, make a comparison to Kant - describe how a Kantian might answer the question. A strong essay will reference the categorical imperative and connect it to experiencing or responding to the pandemic.

5. Conclude your essay with your own perspective on the question "Is the global Coronavirus pandemic having similar effects on everyone in the US?" and name the ethical framework that most closely aligns with your own perspective.

You must use and properly cite at least one additional REPUTABLE news source on this topic (beyond the textbook), include it in your analysis, and cite this source properly - you may want to reference credible data that supports your position as you consider Rawls' and Kant's interpretations of justice in the context of a global pandemic. Only use websites associated with a reputable institution such as a respected university, a credible news media outlet, a government agency, program or department, or a well-known non-profit or non-governmental organizations (for more on this see owl.purdue.edu).  A strong essay on this topic will address all five elements, be 3 full pages in length and will include proper citations and a works cited page.
