Global Ethic 3 Parts Homework (3 pages)

Part 1: Read chapter 3, and review the case study Buying and Selling Body Parts found in your textbook. (I’ll attached below the question)

· First, briefly share your reactions to the case. How did you feel when you read about this practice? Why do you think you felt this way? Consider what you have learned about your own moral/ethical perspective in your answer.

· Then, analyze the case from a utilitarian perspective. First, summarize in your own words Utilitarianism. Then, using this lens, decide if buying and selling body parts an ethical practice - why or why not?

Part 2: Look at Case Study 3.2 - Utilitarianism and female genital cutting. (I’ll attached it below the questions)

· How the theory is applied to that practice and use that to guide you as you consider the buying and selling of body parts through a Utilitarian lens.

· How Widdows applies the theory to FGC and use the same process/ask the same questions to look at the sale of body parts through a Utilitarian lens.

Part 3: Select an additional ethical theory from the textbook

· USE Kantianism  (I’ll attached info below question)

· First, summarize the theory in your own words. Then, analyze the case from that perspective. From this perspective, is buying and selling body parts an ethical practice?

· Do not write about FGC (Female genital cutting) - just look at how your text book applies each theory to FGC and replicate when considering the sale of body parts.

· Conclude your essay by comparing and contrasting the two perspectives. Where did you land, in each analysis, when you considered whether buying and selling body parts would be ethical looking at the issue through different ethical frameworks? Did you arrive at the same conclusion, or did the two theories lead to different conclusions?
