The theme of gentrifications is presently divisive and contentious topic among the states in America. There is no negotiation against or for renovation in various countries as well as the liberals in the United States, the problem of gentrification has a significant effect on objecting to extraordinarily intense discussions. Gentrifications can be explained as the process that the middle-class citizens were reinstating or renovating weak areas that have been affected in the displacement of low income or poor people in the country (Lopes de Souza 1236). The landlords would be most likely to increase the house prices. This made it hard for poor people to clear the bills, in this case, it can be noted that people lives were affected.
According to the study carried out by Christmann renovation started in the early 1970s with the company investment and consistent service expansion in the urban economy. Other than the displacement that happens physically, other social impacts were caused by gentrification. In this paper, I will present the effect of gentrification on social consequences in addition to community activities. The article will also present little negative impact that was caused by gentrification and its destruction on people living below the poverty line.
The significant effect of gentrification is that it positively affects economic development. Gentrification involves neighborhood beautification in addition to making it more aesthetically attractive to people’s eyes. It can be noted that the movement caused by wealthier individuals in the neighborhood they established the renovation that comes in different designers, contractors, painters, etc. this is most of these activities were associated with homemaking.
This is one of the most effective ways of creating and developing of employment and creation of job opportunities. In this case, the new class of people is coming in, a particular taste that might have to go around on what should be wear or eat. This led to the changes in leisure as well as the introduction of more retail services, development of business with the aim of meeting the individual needs of those people who are new in the area.
Furthermore, people sampling owning the houses and apartments with the aim of having a house helps in keeping fashionable and prevent it deteriorating. Some tenants do not like to stay in the homes for an extended period may end up switching for a feat of employment cases. In this case, when there is something wrong with the houses, it will be the landlord responsibility to renovate the house, with the aim of making it last for an extended period or until another tenant comes in (Lopes de Souza 1236). Nevertheless, when an individual has money, they will ensure that they do any anything to make sure that it works for them so that there is no extra expense incurred. In addition to deterioration, maintaining a house leads to the improvement of the areas based on social development.
The more these houses are rented and the more the neighborhood becomes stable. With new renovation and movement of rich people, there are significant increases in the property value. This intern leads to the rise of property taxation. When the property tax increases, there is an extra increase in property tax funding as well as the improvement of public institutions that are beneficial to all citizens. This leads to an increase in government investment in the nation.
In most cases some houses are not occupied in a poor neighborhood, this might be attributed to people’s mentality that no one is willing to stay in them. Those who are eager to stay in these houses do not have money to renovate them. Nonetheless, with the increase in the renovation by a landlord, most of the high-income earners will be willing to rent them, hence minimizing the rate of vacancy in these areas. As a result, these places become attractive and accessible (Collins).
Gentrification is considered as the sign of development or changes in the neighborhood. This comes along with new service and series of recreation facilities in the area. Due to the concentration in this areas, there is a high chance that the suburb will eliminate since there is a lot of focus on the developing the area. This then leads to economic development and emphasis so that more people are attracted.
The loss of social diversity is based on social renewal. In most cases, those individuals in the middle class and upper class that can develop the area do this because they have the aim of being next to people on the same level. It can be noted social diversity is what makes all the societies across the world to change or develop. The loss of social diversity leads to the class of mindedness and racism.
At a nutshell, gentrification plays a significant role in the development of the neighborhood. The positive effect of gratification can lead to a negative impact on individuals living below the poverty line. For instance, economic growth and nourishment due to displacement have an adverse effect on the individuals in the middle class.
