You may have heard about how genes determine our individual biological development. A gene is a tiny segment of DNA that contains the coding for a particular protein. We each inherit 23 chromosomes from each parent, and these chromosomes line up to form 23 pairs. These pairs contain the alternate genes for the same traits.
